Breastfeeding and pumps

I am planning of breastfeed my baby and there are so many pumps out there and so many options.  What do you reccommend and what do you used?  What brands should I stay away from and anyother advice would be awesome!

Re: Breastfeeding and pumps

  • I used the Ameda PY.  I chose it because it is a closed system and it was slightly cheaper than the Medela. My Ameda has been great and I have never had an issue with it.

  • 1) See what your insurance covers.

    2) I had an Ameda Purely Yours, which worked well. Other good options are Medela Freestyle or Pump in Style Advance, and Hygeia Enjoye. I would not recommend any other electrics. For manual, either Medela Harmony or Avent Isis.

  • I used the Medela PISA for going back to work, and the Medela Harmony manual pump for outings. Both are on their second baby with no trouble yet.

  • I love my Medela PIS but I have heard good things about the Ameda pumps as well I would stay away from the Playtex electric, I kept getting clogged ducks from it.

  • My Dad bought me the Medela electric single pump, I loved it. It can be cordless, and it's really quiet
  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Medela Freestyle.  Can't beat hands-free!!  I used it at home and work for 2 babies and will be using it for my 3rd come October.  I know other pumps can be made hands-free by getting a special bra, but the ability to strap it around your waist and be able to move around the house (or office!!) if you need to is just awesome.
