Complete newbie here! Wondering about water birth specifics.
If we choose to go that route, would that mean an OB would instead be replaced by a midwife? I like my new OB but have yet to bring up the topic since its so early....
That's something you'd have to talk to your ob about as well as seeing if the hospital you plan to deliver even allows it . Many dont but will still allow you to labor in the tub. I have had three water births and am planing another here in the next month or so . I highly reccomend them .
In my area it depends on the hospital. The only hospital in my area does not allow water births. They allow you to labor in the tub and even start to push in the tub but you have to deliver on the bed. If a water birth is what you want I would discuss it with your OB now.
I told my OB I wanted a water bith at my first apt. and was told right away it was not an option because they don't know anywhere in my area that can do that and they look down upon water births. They also could not tell me any midwifes in the area bacause "they did not know of any". Thanx to the bump, I was able to find an awesome midwife, douls, natural yoga classes and everything I wanted to have the birth I want. My midwife is able to bring up an inflateable tub into my Aprartment and i can water birth right at home. I am gload I found out right away so I was able to interview and check out my midwife options and take care of what i needed to as soon as i could so I can enjoy my pregnancy!
