Completely gobsmacked

I just got a phone call from DD?s school from the front office clerk thanking me for having DC call the school before having flowers delivered.  WTF?  I asked her to elaborate because I was so confused.  Apparently SM called the school this morning and asked if she and DC could have flowers delivered to DD because she?s doing her play this week for the classrooms.  And they actually sent the flowers.

What.  The.  HELL?!  I?m glad that DC/SM took the initiative to do something nice for DD and make her feel special.  But huh?  Where did this sudden desire to give a damn come from?

I know the most important thing is that DD got flowers and it made her feel special, but I can?t help but feel incredibly confused.  And shocked.
