I know it depends on when they go etc. but what is an estimated amount that most mommies use on average? 5-6? ... more... less?
Also, how much do moms usually spend on diapers per month... from newborn to the next few months?
Just trying to plan ahead... considering this with bills.
Re: How many diapers will I go through per day (on average)?
Yep, somedays are still like this. I swear DS loves nothing more than pooping in a fresh diaper.

It's been awhile, but I was totally going to guess a dozen. I feel like she went non freaking stop in the first few months.

Yep. Every time Ds ate, he pooped. He's 18 months old, and still poops 5 times a day sometimes.

DD was rash prone and could only wear Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive dipes for about three or four months...lucky for us, those are the most expensive diapers ever. We easily spent 100 bucks a month on diapers in the beginning. It slows down though. From 1y to potty training, we were exclusively using Luvs and only spending about 25 bucks a month.
Depends on the kid. For the first month, DD seemed to have some level of poop in her diaper at every diaper change and we went through a lot of diapers. DS pooped once a day and we probably only changed him about 8-10 times in a 24 hours period.
As for the diaper genie, it holds a lot of diapers and since my kids were/are bf'd the poop diapers don't smell, so we put them in the diaper genie. Once I transitioned DS to formula, his poop diapers went right out to the outdoor garbage can.
Early on I think all the diapers we changed had poop. Newborns just poop that often, hehe.
Personally we put both kinds of diapers in the Genie. Now that we're using size 4 and he's going through 4-5 a day, I would guess we change it about once a week, give or take. But honestly that's because once the diapers sit in there awhile the smells waft out whenever you push a new one in and it's killer. (Not a problem with bfing poop, but solids are stinky!!)
We don't do cloth but I have friends who do and they swear by it. We are considering doing it this time around since we'll have our own place and I won't have to lug laundry up and down several flights of narrow stairs anymore.
That being said, I don't think I'd ever use cloth in the newborn stage!! They just go through too many and I feel like washing a load of diapers almost every day is the last thing I'd want to deal with in a sleep-deprived state, hehe.
For the first year we threw all diapers in the Genie. After a year or so we started only throwing poop diapers in the genie and pee went in the regular trash. This time we will probably use the Genie for poop only.

My diaper service recommends 70 wk so 10 per day and we have found that to be pretty accurate with both boys.
I'm not sure if it would be less with disposable diaps or not.
