Trying to Get Pregnant

New and a question!

Hi ladies!  FI and I are getting married in August, and will be starting the TTC journey shortly after.  I am due for my annual next month, and am under the impression that typically insurance doesn't cover pre-conception visits and annuals at the same time.

Would you recommend just scheduling my annual and discuss TTC  then, or should I schedule two separate appointments?   My doc and I already discussed basic plans for TTC at last years annual, but also talked about more in depth discussions this summer.

TIA!

Go for the annual and bring up about TTC. No need to do two separate appointments.

  • We just started TTC last month, my annual is on Thursday.  I talked to my Dr last year about starting to TTC within the year.  I just plan on telling her we started when I see her on Thursday.

My husband and I are self employed and pay for our own insurance and have a VERY high deductible...so if I can jus talk to her during my annual appointment (which is covered) rather than make a separate appointment then thats what I am going to do :)

  • Welcome to the board!

There is really nothing to a preconception visit.  Just mention it at your annual and your doctor will probably say ``take prenatals.``  If ?t`s determined you are healthy at your annual there is no reason for other visits.

I would just discuss TTC at your annual. Preconception appointments aren't very in depth from what I've seen.

They're not, and a great way to waste money when you could have brought it up when you have, say, pap or something. Which is what I should have done =/

  • I would do it all at once.  I was due for my annual and just talked to my doctor about our plans TTC.  The only thing she did was order blood work (to have a baseline before getting pregnant) and write a Rx for prenatals.  She also told me to call once I got pregnant.  That was about it.

  • Thanks ladies!  I'll just bring it up at the annual, and avoid a wasted visit.   My doc had me swap to prenatals last year instead of my regular multi-vitamin.  Her opinion is all women of childbearing age should be taking them.  So I took her advice.

I agree with your doc!  Great to start taking them whenever :)

  • I just mentioned our TTC plans at my annual appointment, which was 3 months before we actually began TTC.  Just like PP, she just instructed me to start taking PNVs and to come in again when I was pregnant.  No need for a separate appointment.
  • I did both at the same time!
