I am curious, my LO is almost 5 months old and currently, our nighttime routine is bath, changing diaper/clothes, putting on sleep sack, read, then I give LO bottle. Once he is done with the bottle he is so sleepy that I usually just rock him to sleep and he is generally out cold in less than 10 minutes. In which I then lay him in the crib with no issues and he never wakes up til morning, all is fine.
I guess my question is, should I be trying to lay him down awake instead so that he can learn to self soothe (for later down the road)? I usually just do the above because "it works just fine" but just wondering if it would be better for me/baby in the long run to stop the rocking and lay him down awake to learn self soothe capabilites. Is that something babies NEED to learn or is it just something people do for babies who do not fall or stay asleep well?
Re: Would you still sleep train?
I don't see why you need to change anything unless this routine is a problem for you.
We do the same routine as you. I went through a period where I felt like I should sleep train, but why mess with a good thing? I have a baby who actually sleeps. Even if we don't sleep train, surely, she won't need to be rocked to sleep when she's four or five, right? She'll let me know when she's ready to change the routine. Until then, we'll stick with what works.
