I just noticed the gerber oatmeal I bought says once opened consume within 30 days . I alternate btw oatmeal and rice so no way I will finish. Is this for real? No big deal but just wondering .

I keep mine in a cool-dry place. I only feed my LO cereal every few days or I use a little bit to thicken up a watery puree. I have used one of the containers for about a month and a half. I don't see anything wrong with it and it doesn't smell bad or mix differently. I'd say you should be fine.
I bet the cereal is fine much longer but the company doesn't want to deal with any liability involved. If it we me (and as long as my baby didn't have any immune dysfunction), I'd feed it after 30 days..
