Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

baseball game with 14 month old

GM! We are taking DD to a baseball game for the first time on Sunday afternoon. I know she won't last the entire game, but does anyone have tips and/or advice on what to bring/leave home? She is walking with assistance so I think I will have to bring the Ergo, but I don't want to lug a ton of stuff to the ballpark. TIA!!

  • We went opening weekend...not day, that would have been nuts! LO loved the songs and cheering, and what not. We also made sure to know where the play area for kids was and I ended up hanging out there for a while with him.

Everyone at the ballpark that worked there was extremely friendly and excited about him being at his first game. As a matter of fact, the ticket person told us to make sure to get a complimentary "My First Game" button from guest services.  It's pretty cute.

We brought plenty of snacks and drinks for him.  Just look online for what is allowed. We didn't bring a stroller, but our friends did, and they were able to check it at the gate, and then get it when they left. I also brought books to read.

We made it to the 6th inning, and it was a late game. So we left more because we wanted him to be able to sleep.

     Have fun! :)

  • DS is a bit older, but we just took him to a game a couple of weeks ago. I brought snacks, a sippy, and a blanket (which he didn't want). He was pretty entertained just watching the people around us. We didn't take a stroller or anything because we didn't want to deal with it.

I took DD to her first game when she was 13 months. It was Opening Day so it was crazy there! I would definitely recommend bringing the Ergo (I carried DD on my back when we were arriving and leaving...she walks, but I definitely wouldn't have wanted her to negotiate that crowd by herself and I needed my hands free to deal with the tickets, etc). I would also bring snacks but if she's anything like my DD the crowd will be entertaining enough so  you won't need much else. When she started to get particularly rowdy, either my husband or I would take her down to the concourse to walk around for a bit. She made it through 7 innings which I thought was pretty amazing! She had a blast.

    Good luck and have fun.

ETA: Also ditto PP - if they have a Guest Services check and see if they do something special for you LO's first game. We got a really cute certificate!

  • Thank you ladies!! I am excited to see how she does. She is very nosy at restaurants, so I am sure she will be very entertained! :)

All we brought was our carrier (like an Ergo), a spare diaper, and a couple of those pouches - though she was more interested in the pretzel, lol.
ETA: This was her second game, and we stayed until the mid-9th when it was clear our team would win and the fact that it was an hour past LO's bedtime was catching up with her.

She loved the music and people watching.

Our first baseball game was when she was four months old, which was equally minimalist but at that age we brought a few more diapers and a nursing cover.

Not to hijack - but did you guys sit in the seats or the grass area?  My brother wants to take our guy to the Angels/Pirates game, but I can't see him chilling in the seats.  I feel like the grassy area at Petco Park is more suitable for toddlers and they don't have something like that at Angels Stadium.
