Logging diapers and feedings

How long did you keep a log of feedings and diapers? LO is 16 days old and I've been logging them since we got home from the hospital. It's helpful when I forget when she last ate, but I don't really wake her to eat so I don't know if it's really necessary. She has regular wet and poopy diapers, so I'm not really worried about that either. I don't know what her weight gain is as her pedi appt is Wednesday.

I logged diapers the first 2m. I just quit logging feedings about 2w ago. I still have my app though for days when they are off schedule or aren't eating full bottles.How are you tracking it?

I have the What to expect baby app. It's kind of annoying.

I never logged. Output tended to line right up with input, so there really was no need. If there was ever a discrepancy, which only happened during growth spurts [he was bf so during spurts sometimes deuces didn't happen], it was usually pretty obvious.

I was logging reguarly until about 3 weeks when she suddenly hadn't pooped for 3 days. I got worried and called the pedi but they said it's normal for breastfed babies because the milk is so good for them that their body absorbs it all. They said it ranges from one dirty daiper per feeding all the way up to no dirty diapers for a whole week. That's when I realized there's no point in logging if it ranges that much.

Thanks ladies! I'll see how her appt goes this week and decide if I should keep it up or not. If I do continue I will check out the apps you've suggested.

We kept going for several months but mostly so DH and I were on the same page bC our app would sync with each other and when I went back to work it helped us keep track

I tracked and logged both feedings and diapers for the first two months. I created an Excel spreadsheet that I kept on a clipboard... I tried using the itzbeen but didn't really like it.

I logged for about a week and a half but we never had weight issues or anything. I would stop whenever your comfortable. For some people that's a few days and for others it's months.

I got a cute baby journal from Target and logged for about 3M. I am super nerdy and love organization, though, so I got a joy from doing it hahahaha!

If she is gaining weight and has regularly filled diapers, and you don't feel concerned, I say stop

Till March...of this year. Yes, he was born in October 2011.

To be fair, and to show that I am not a total freak, we did this because we were trying to track allergies and correlate his symptoms to what he took in, and he is not a good eater so we were tracking his intake to try and see patterns...but that all went out the window in March with his first round of inconsistent allergy test results. Now I make a calendar entry if we try something "new" so that if he reacts I can remember, but that's about it. I mentally track his intake daily to make sure he's getting a remotely balanced diet and enough fluids -- and the nanny still writes down what she feeds him for her own edification.

That being said, if he were a kid with no issues, I would have stopped at a couple months.

I must be in the minority but I'm still logging after 9 weeks. We had actually quit when they were a month old but then we had an episode when we started to supplement that we weren't sure when the last time Silas had had a BM and I flipped. Now there is a typed up spreadsheet (it took me 5m to make) that sits on the dresser by the changing pad and I just mark it every time we change them. They don't poop every day so it's more for peace of mind that it's only been a day or two and not 10 since DH and I share diaper changes. It also helps us see if the boys are eating more than 8 bottles a day and signals us to up their quantity. I couldn't deal with the ifeed app i bought because I always needed to have my phone and if i forgot it in the bedroom it didnt get logged. Too frustrating. The end

We did it for maybe the first 2-3 weeks. DS was in the 95% for height and 90% for weight and had plenty of wet and poopy diapers. We weren't concerned and neither was his pediatrician.

We logged for 6 months because it helped each of us know what happened at the last MOTN feeding, I have a craptastic short term memory, I'm a science geek who likes her data, and I'm an extreme type A with OCD. I only stopped because I knew it would go on forever if I didn't cut it off at a nice even date I could live with. I still miss it, especially since DH has a new habit of not looking at the clock when he feeds her, and can't tell me when she last ate. Drives me nuts.
