So C hasn't been drinking much formula over the last couple of days and was up a ton the last couple of nights. Can teething cause this? I know she is working on a few upper teeth but her lack of interest in formula is starting to freak me out. She is still eating oatmeal, a container of fruit, and a container of veggie a day but she has only had maybe 10-15 oz of formula a day for the last 2 days.
Do I just assume it is teething and that it will go back to normal after those teeth cut through? Should I increase her solids for now because she isn't drinking enough?
I am just worried that she is waking up at night a lot because she is hungry but she isn't really drinking much formula....
Sorry if this is all over the place, I am just sort of at a loss here. Any ideas or advice?
TIA!
Re: What do you think?
Charlotte will maybe drink 3 ounces of breast milk total (as opposed to 18) at daycare when she is cutting teeth. For us, though, she doesn't wake up at night. It lasts a few days to a week, and that's that. She'll get back to her normal self.
I personally wouldn't increase the solids, because the nutrition should be coming from the formula anyway. So if she wants more of anything, it should be the formula.
Keep an eye on wet diapers, and as long as she is producing enough, I wouldn't worry.
My DD won't drink much formula whenever she's dealing with anything - teeth, a cold, now an ear infection, etc. She is definitely drinking more at night to make up for it, but what can you do? She's hungry.
My plan WAS to start reducing her overnight bottles very slowly, in the hopes of making her less dependent on them and start eating more during the day. But I'm not going to do that while she's sick, because I know it won't work. It's been one thing after another with her - a cold, then teeth, then more teeth, now she has an ear infection. If and when we ever get over this hump and get back to a normal routine, I'll give it a try.
But I'm not trying to increase her solids. It is what it is. She's not eating a ton of food either, if she's not feeling well.
LO has gone through a few bouts of formula strikes, all teething related. After a couple days we started feeding her through a syringe, then we got smart and used a cup, then we got smarter and bought a regular sippy cup without the spill-proof thingy. It's the sucking that was bothering my kid.
Oh, and our kid doesn't sleep when she's teething. It's terrible. She'll wake up, refuse eating, and just scream for hours even though you're rocking her.
DS goes through spurts where he'll drink less. Usually his intake is about 30 oz plus 3 meals. I've noticed a few factors can change his intake. One being teething especially if 2 are coming in at once, when he wakes for the day and the 3'd I noticed was the nipple size on his bottles. We recently increased them and he's doing much better. I think between teething and having to suck harder to get the formula out he was just over it. We use the avent bottles and went from a 2 to a 3. We tried 3 a while back but it was too fast. Now it seems just right.
Maybe this helped? I would just keep an eye on wet diapers and if she's producing I wouldn't worry. Much like us their appetite isn't always consistent!
