Potty Training

I know most of you ladies have younger kids/babies but are there any who have been through the potty training process? We started this weekend. We bought him "big boy underwear and are taking him to the potty every hour. Sometimes he'll tell us he needs to go and we take him then too. We are planning on using diapers at bedtime but I wasn't sure about nap. Any suggestions?

Re: Potty Training

  • We are right behind you but waiting until the initial shock of bringing twins home wears off. Plus DS doesn't really display the signs that he is ready yet. I will be here asking you for advice soon!

    I recommend some kind of reward system to help motivate him.nbsp; I made sticker charts.nbsp; We did pull ups for naps initially.nbsp; We tried to master being potty trained for awake time first, then worked on naps and bedtime.nbsp;

    Thanks! Ill be making a sticker chart tomorrow. Day one was rough, lots of accidents and laundry. Hope tomorrow is better. After having wet sheets after nap ill be sticking with your diaper suggestion for now. Thx!

    Congrats on your new babies! I've only been through one day of potty training and its tough! Expect lots of accidents. Hope ill have some useful advice for you. But surely with the new babies trying to juggle potty training and feedings sound tough.

  • We are also holding off on potty training right now. We are doing the big girl bed conversion first. Her big girl bed comes on Wed.

    Good luck on the potty training! We will be there later this summer. My pediatrician recommended an Elmo potty video that she said was really annoying, but her 3 year old loved!

    What is it about that little red guy? DS doesn't even watch TV so he has never seen an episode of Sesame Street. However he has some Elmo books and a little Elmo stuffed animal that we're gifts, and he loves Elmo! It's crazy!

    Lol, my DD is the same way! Someone gave us Elmo jammies and she's obsessed w them, even though she never watches the show.

  • We did the three day and it worked great. Set the timer for every 15 minutes and missed dd peeing about a dozen times. By the third day she was good. No rewards, just lots of jumping up and down and clapping.

    We still used pullups at nap and bedtime...hoping to train for that in the next few weeks, but we don't have consistently dry pullups.

    Fwiw, I would rather PT than have to make the switch to the toddler bed, lol. Good luck!
