Success after IF

After giving birth

Since this board is success after IF I was wondering if since you went through IF you feel protective over your newborn babies?

i feel that way and I'm so upset that I have to leave them overnight with my In laws due to a wedding we have And it's making me miserable! For starters I don't really like them and then I have to leave them with my kids as there's no one else to watch them! I could potentially not sleep out but DH really wants to so that he can have a care free night! Ugh - any advice?

Re: After giving birth

  • Haha...I've turned into that mom I never expected to be...obsessive over who is watching my child. I'm lucky because I love my in-laws, but they don't live nearby. My parents live about 15 min away and they help out a ton with J.

I expected to be able to hire a nanny/sitter and be fine with a good reference. Nope. Not yet. Only family so far!

No real advice on leaving or not leaving your kids with your in-laws since you don't indicate your concerns on why you are nervous (ie, drinkers, smokers, abusive, etc). I would have a through chat with YH and come to an agreement on what will work for you both.

  • DS1 was a preemie so I was a crazy person when he was born.  I am a total helicopter parent!  Maybe you can do small steps, just leaving them (assuming more than one) for a small amount of time at first to see how it goes.

  • We're going through something similar. We have a wedding in Sept and also have to leave LO. I too am not happy about it. We just started talking last night on who we wanted to ask and I too have concerns about asking my MIL. My issue is that she never listens to me.....I can't trust her for a full weekend of care if this is the case. And, like you, I also can't stand her....this just adds insult to injury.

I know we will figure something out and even though its giving me anxiety and making me feel sad, I do look forward to a weekend of good sleep and being able to enjoy the open bar at the wedding and not be totally miserable the next day while caring for a baby. Plus, it'll be very good for my husband and I to have an entire weekend away together!

  • I have only left my oldest twice (2 nights each) other than for the delivery of her sisters.  I hate doing it.  One thing to consider - if you just come home late as opposed to staying overnight, will it make a huge difference?  For me, the hardest thing is missing the bedtime routine.  If you get back at a reasonable time the next morning, I wouldn't think it would be too different than sneaking in at the midnight hour.  You deserve a little break, too!
