Best hospitals/birth centers btw Rochester/Batavia?

Hi ladies, my husband is currently in the final round of interviews for a job located in Batavia, NY.  No guarantee that he will get it, but I am 7.5 weeks pregnant and want to do a little research in case moving becomes a reality for us!

In your experience, what are the best hospitals/birth centers in that area?  If we move, we would probably look to live closer to Rochester than Batavia (we are looking at the Churchville/Chili area).  I don't mind driving up to 30 mins to get to the hospital.  I would prefer a place that has a good NICU.  Any and all recommendations are welcome!

Re: Best hospitals/birth centers btw Rochester/Batavia?

  • My SIL has a great experience at Highland Hospital. Plus, it is right around the corner to Strong which has a great NICU and children's center. I am personally 24 weeks and am going to United Memorial in Batavia. Its a good hospital if your having a normal pregnancy. But if you have complications I would look into Strong or Highland.

  • Strong definitely for NICU. They're definitely the place to go if you or your baby are risk! Highland, Rochester General, and Unity (where I will be delivering) are all pretty comparable from what I understand. I have heard great things about Highland's lactation support, my niece and nephew were born at Rochester General, & several of my close friends have delivered at Unity and loved it. I'm closer to Unity than any of the others as well, so that was a factor in my decision. Best of luck to you!

  • Strong was amazing!

  • I suggest Strong if you're high risk and Highland if you're not. Highland is amazing and Strong is just as good, just more expensive in the end.  The hospital in Batavia is nice, I was born there years ago, but if you have any complications they send you to Rochester. There really isn't anything in between there and you want to stay away from Dansville and Lakeland has closed.

  • Thank you all so much for the feedback.  DH just got an official job offer Friday so it looks like we are moving!  I will look into Strong and Highland for sure.  I am not high risk, but I live in Albany now and had my son at Albany Med, which has a high-level NICU and all the bells and whistles...I guess I am used to having that available "just in case", but Highland might be a better option since I've been through a normal delivery before.  Either way I appreciate the suggestions very much.
