Shots

LO has to get her 8 week shots a little early bc I have to go back to work after next week, and she needs the shots before going to daycare.

What do you suggest giving LO before the shots? I've heard some ppl say they give their LOs Tylenol. Any other suggestions to make it as painless as possible?

My pedi said there was evidence that Tylenol prior to vax made them less effective. Although I've known lots of people that did it and their kids are fine. We didn't give anything before, I nursed right after, right there in the room.
E was really fussy that night after her shots. I pretty much cuddled and nursed her all evening. Looking back I should have given Tylenol that evening when she was so fussy. But the pedi said not to unless she had a fever.
GL with the shots. Remember they are harder on us than they are on them.

We didn't give anything before or after. We've been lucky so far the shots ddon't really affect her. She screams for a minute or two when she gets them, then it's done.

ETA: We've never done more than two in one visit, though, so I don't know if it would have been harder on her if we followed theAAP schedule.

Same here. We did give them Tylenol, but waited a few hours until their fevers started to rise. In the moment, they screamed, but were fine with some cuddles. Our pedi's nurses are crazy fast (DH and I had our flu shots there and we were in the middle of a conversation when they stuck us so fast we didn't even have time to react!). After a few hours, they were very sleepy and back to their normal selves about 36 hours later. Neither had any issue with the 2 month, but DS1 got a high fever with the 4 month round. At the six month set, we made sure to keep some Tylenol in his system to keep his fever on a low grade level.

Just make sure you have some baby Tylenol around and have time for lots of snuggles.

I didn't give anything before either. He cried for a minute or two after but calmed right down. I didn't feed him right after, just gave him the paci and rocked him a bit then off we went. He reacted really well, no fever or fussiness, just a little extra sleepy the rest of the day and he had four shots and an oral medicine.

Don't give her anything before the shots. There are some studies that have actually shown that Tylenol can affect how well the vaccines work (or something like that) so my pedi said only to give Tylenol after the shots if DS was running a fever, which he didn't. GL!

I have my appt on Wed, and I am dreading it.

My pedi told me to bring the Tylenol...they will go over the dosage info with me but they don't recommend it ahead of time because most babies don't actually need it. I can already see a fight brewing btwn DH and i about giving it to her if she's crazy fussy with no fever....
I also will probably nurse her right after out of comfort. Dreading it.

I didn't give her anything before or after. She screamed and cried for a minute. I played her music from my phone which calmed her down. She was cranky and slept a lot for about three days with a low fever.

DS was actually pretty good for his 2 month shots. The nurse was so good with him - he didn't realize what was going on until the 3rd shot! I just made sure to have a bottle ready for when he was done. We also made sure his appointment was later in the day, gave him some tylenol when we got home and put him to bed. Hope the shots are easy for you!!

I never have Tylenol as a preventative but he typically needed it after. He was mostly sleepy!

I didn't give LO anything before. I just had her binky handy and gave her cuddles in the office. A bottle or a nursing session will help right after. I did end up giving LO Tylenol, but that was because she developed a fever. GL!
