Ferber working 75% of the time

Its day 7. And when I say "working" I mean we put her down & she's alseep without blood curdling screams in under 5 minutes. So that is happening 75% of the time.

But still for some naps its 25 minutes of screaming bloody murder & sometimes in the MOTN same thing. I've been very consistent with it & have not picked her up.

Everyone I talk to us like, "yeah, 3 days & every is fixed". So I'm like, how much more screaming is going to happen?

Re: Ferber working 75% of the time

  • We started Ferber maybe three weeks ago and she still fusses when put down for bed. Granted, it usually lasts no more than five minutes and she's not screaming either... just fussing.

Naps, however, are a different story. She fusses longer with them (up to twenty minutes or so). I don't really understand why. I guess every child is different, but we have seen improvements with her sleep. I'll take her fussing for a few minutes if it means she gets more sleep in the end.

I really can't answer your question, but I can definitely sympathize. I assumed by now that she would just go to sleep without the added fussing, but that hasn't happened yet.

  • Totally normal.

For us, bedtime was "fixed" in 4 days. Naps took about 4 weeks!!! WEEKS! (the did gradually, very gradually, improve over that time) It sucks, but DD sleeps so well now - 2x 1.5-2hour naps per day, no/minimal crying, wakes up happy.

Keep doing what you are doing. You will get there.

  • Ferber is still not consistent with us and we are two months in!  She is kind of the opposite though, seems to always go down easy for naps, but resists bedtime about once a week. I think naps took about a week maybe two to get consistent, and then about a month to start getting longer in length . It sucks, but it sounds like you're right on track.
