NBR: Wedding Season

And wedding season begins! We're off to a wedding sans DS. I love love love weddings. If I could plan a wedding all over again I'd do it in a heartbeat. My secret dream job would be to be a wedding planner.

Do you love or hate weddings and why?

If you're married, did you enjoy planning your wedding or would have rather had a planner?

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Re: NBR: Wedding Season

  • When I was younger & single, attending weddings wasn't always much fun, esp when everyone else had a date.

But overall, I enjoy going to weddings.  Most of my friends are scattered all over the country, and weddings bring people together so I get to see lots of friends.  Also, we've been to 2 destination weddings in France (they were 1 year apart, both at a chateau), and that was A LOT of fun.

As for my own wedding, I planned my wedding and did enjoy it for the most part.  My parents did not want to be involved at all (except to foot the bill), so it was a lot of work for me.  We got married in Dallas - where DH & I were living at that time but not our hometown - so I didn't really have anyone to help me with wedding planning.  I would have enjoyed the planning more IF I weren't so busy at work (12hr shifts, constantly changing between days and nights, as well as lots of weekends).

I miss going to weddings now... Was going to 5-6 weddings a year during the mid to late 2000s.  Now everyone I know is married.

  • I love going to weddings......the only thing I don't like is how expensive they are!

as for planning mine, I didn't love it.....although I don't think it was much worse than "normal" I hated the drama that came with trying to please everyone. I also think I have a bad taste in my mouth from wedding planning because my mother in law volunteered to pay for flowers.....,came to florist, added items to bill......never paid leaving DH and I with a several thousand dollar bill just a month before the wedding.....then she did the same thing with our rehearsal dinner even though we confronted her in advance about finances. We wound up needing to take out a loan to pay for our wedding.....years later and I am still bitter that she did this to us.

ironically though a dream job for me would be working in a wedding dress shop. I loooooooove wedding dresses and dress shopping :)

  • I enjoy weddings, nothing as intense as love or hate. I appreciate them more now that I'm married myself.

Planning my wedding was very stressful. I'm not super creative, but with I was. DH and I fought more during our engagement than before or since. If we had the money, I would have totally hired a planner.

    Have fun at the wedding!

  • I love other people's weddings but hated planning my own! If it had been up to me, we would have eloped.

I'm kind of eh about weddings. If it's someone really close I enjoy it. If we are only attending bc it's obligatory, I get pretty annoyed.
We got married on the beach in Mexico. Once we chose the location, we had a coordinator who took care of the details. He had a checklist. Do you want flowers, do you want cake, do you want mariachis, etc. so it was super easy. And I loved it like that! I'm doing it again for my next wedding too. Insert mobile wink.

  • I enjoy going to weddings, especially now when we don't have one we're either standing up in or need to go to every.single.weekend.  There were a few summers in there when both my husband and I were standing up in weddings what felt like every other weekend over the summer months and it got expensive and kinda old but now that almost all of our good friends are married it's fine :)

I had a GREAT time planning our wedding and even though I DID hire a wedding planner, I am an anal retentive perfectionist so I broke my back making sure every little detail came together perfectly, everything was coordinated perfectly, everything was flawless and towards the end I was really stressed out.  I remember coming back to the hotel that night and almost feeling relieved that the big day was over so I could finally sleep and RELAX.  Not that I didn't have a blast on our wedding day, but I was worn out and ready to hit Mexico for 9 days the next morning :)

I want to renew our vows for our 10 year anniversary, but just do something simple on the beach in Hawaii or something.  Ahhhhhh :)
