I don't think that I'm eating enough. I am obese so my doctor is very okay with my lack of weight gain, but after having been VERY sick for the first 16 weeks now at 17 weeks I am finding myself hungry and I don't really know what to eat! Ideas for small lunches or hearty snacks would be great.. I am a vegetarian and my baby is obsessed with fruit so I am already eating tons if that. What kinds of things are you guys eating?? Thank you!
Re: Healthy hearty snack ideas?
I'm 15 weeks and eating like I normally would.
During my work week I have 1-2 eggs or a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, a granola-type bar and an orange for a snack, lunch is usually yogurt and a veggie salad with chicken sausage, and then whatever meal we cook for dinner.
Cheese makes a good snack, and goes particularly well with fruit. I know brie is on the "don't eat" list, but I eat it with crackers and berries or jam, and it's delicious.
I'd try to fill in whatever food group you're missing out on as a snack. If you're not having many veggies, maybe try to find a veggie you can cut up and eat with dip?
That was very helpful.. Thank you. Because you mentioned cheese crackers I'm having ritz topped w cheddar and mango pepper jelly with a handful of blackberries...
I appreciate it!! Feel better soon
Yeah I understand.. am pretty sure even if I wasn't already a vegetarian I would be barely eating meat. This baby hates protein.. Though I am feeling ready to try eating beans again.. Like in a bean and cheese quesadilla like someone suggested. The only way I've been able to tolerate any protein so far is with strawberry protein drinks and some PB crackers!
Most brie in the US is pasteurized so don't feel bad eating it.
I really appreciate you sharing what you typically eat.. It's a good gauge for me. Great idea on the veggies.. Even though I love veggies they have been an aversion of mine. Maybe I could try it again and do that as a snack
I was a vegetarian for 5 years a while back, but I ate a ton of cheese quesadillas. I bet you could get a really good cheese and bean quesadilla at Chipotle, their quesadillas are so good especially dipped in their hot sauce. mmmm
I also like half of an avocado spread on a piece of whole wheat toast.
Veggies dipped in each is another go to. Cherry tomatoes, cucumber slices, red pepper slices are my favorites. I also made rice pudding this week with brown rice for a treat.
For breakfast I had some plain yougurt with honey, walnuts, raisins and a few tabs of granola.
Hope you find something yummy and healthy soon!
Also, you can either make a checklist or get an app to keep track of the number of serving you eat of something during a day. Look up the pregnancy recommendations or ask your doc.
I am in love with bananas, Dole fruit cups with pears and pineapples, and frozen drinks! Not as healthy but yummm when it's hot and my stomach is acting up! I wish I could eat more veggies but they don't always seem to agree with me.
Like some PPs, it has been difficult for me to get enough protein as well. I don't eat much meat and never did prior to pregnancy either.
Fruit has been the main staple of my diet since getting KU. For veggies, although I used to love them raw, now I can stomach only sugar snap peas and carrots. They're great with hummus.
Snacks I make sure to keep on hand are almonds, greek yogurt, and Babybell gouda or white cheddar.
Last night I made giant pot of Cuban black beans so I'll be working on those for a few days. Lentils and/or quinoa are items I've been making sure to prepare a couple times a week to help get in a little more protein as well.
You're already eating a lot of fruit, but mae sure you get a lot of variety. Peaches, plums, apples, oranges, bannanas, berries, watermelon.
I don't know if you like cottage cheese, but I've been eating cottage cheese sweetened with fruit or apple sauce.
I LOVE carrots soaked in italian dressing.
Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches!
I am a big fan of pastas, you can get wholegrain instead of white pasta. Lastnight I had ziti with parmesan and basil.
I actually like to snack on vegies. I will cut up a green pepper or dip celery in peanut butter.
