Can't get LO to use sippy cup

Does anyone know of a sippy cup that has a bottle nipple on it. This transition is proving very difficult! Or if anyone had the same issue, what did you do. Oli just throws a fit when we try to give him a sippy-he is totally addicted to his bottle! To make matters worse, his pediatrician lectures me about it every check up. Argh!

We used Tommee Tippee bottles and for his first sippy cup we used the 4m+ Tommee Tippee cup that is interchangeable with the bottle nipples. We gave it to him first with the bottle nipple, and after a few minutes of drinking from the nipple, we swapped it with the sippy top. Tommee Tippee cups have a no spill valve which is nice for master sippy cup drinkers, but I thought made it harder to learn to use the cup. I popped out the valves, which is easy to do, for the first few months he used those cups. It made a mess, but we only used water and we only gave it to him during a meal.

I bought our cup at Target, but it was with the bottles, not the other sippy cups.

Nuby or Nuk make the best transitional cups in my experience.

I second this! We used a Nuk sippy cup and it was very similar to a bottle.  He then transitioned to a straw cup and takes those exclusively now. Good luck!

  • L won't use a sippy cup, only a straw cup. I started with the Playtex straw cup. You can squeeze the bottom and make the liquid go up the straw for them. After doing that for about a week, he had the hang of it. Now I use the Zoli because the straw allows them to get every drop of liquid even if they have it tipped a bit.
  • We have a Nuk one with handles. She doesn't really need it anymore and she's been taking all kinds of cups forever but I stil keep it in rotation since I have it.

Not this design but you get the message.

  • Only other thought is....get rid of the bottles. Cold turney makes for a rough day or two, but kids WILL drink out of what is provided. It's probably confusing to get the bottle sometimes and the sippy others (coming from the mom that pushed to the 15 month bottle limit to . the . day. ha)
