Toddler with a swollen ear

My 2yo's ear is swollen. It's only the cartilage that is swollen and red and it looks to be weeping. I'm not sure if he was bitten while outside as I don't see a puncture mark. I'm assuming its painful as he winces when I touch it and it woke him from a dead sleep.

Thoughts?

could she have gotten hit on the ear with something?

I'd keep an eye on it, and probably give ibuprofen for the swelling.
