Looking at cribs and want to know what your opinions are on cribs that can convert to toddler beds. Have any of you used them? Do you think it would be a good investment?
We got a cheap one from Ikea that turns into a toddler bed but doesn't turn into a full bed. Our kid likes to chew on the railing so I'm glad we opted for the cheap crib. Plus we knew we would have another (or hoped at least) while our first was still a toddler so we will likely need the crib and a toddler bed at the same time. It makes more sense to me to put a twin mattress on the floor for kid #1 while we use the crib for baby #2.
If you're only planning on having one child and you make sure to put rail guards on to protect it from little teeth then sure, I can see how a convertible crib would make sense.
We have a convertible crib but will not use it as a toddler bed. We'll switch straight to a twin when the time comes. I see no need to add an extra transition in there. We spent about $150 on it (Graco Stanton) but the only reason we got a convertible was because we liked the way it looked. Like a PP said, DS has chewed on the rails and that makes me very thankful we didn't spend a lot on his crib.
