Nurseries and Baby Gear

Not exactly a nursery but

My ds is about to be one and he's super active. He is starting to climb things like his play pen and I wonder if his crib is next. I think we will need to transition him into a toddler bed within the next 3-4 months. Has anyone had to switch to a toddler bed from a crib under 18 months?

They sell tent things that go on top of cribs to keep babies from climbing out.  I have no idea if they work or how safe they are...I've just seen them.

  • Crib tents have been recalled, not safe.

I've transitioned kids out as young as 1. DD1 could fully climb in and out at 11m and it wasn't safe. The first 2 weeks were brutal, until I gated her doorway and she'd stay in her room. After that she stayed in bed. I have a house of climbers, and except for dd4, all were in beds at 18m (and all but one stayed in when they went to bed).

Found a video on youtube that's pretty darn close to how she escaped. I have video, but it's on VHS (old school!).

  • My kids are thankfully still happy in their cribs and not trying to climb out, but you may get more answers on the Toddlers 12-24 months board!
