PCOS, coming to terms

I have been diagnosed with PCOS. At first I was releived as I did not have cancer or premenopause. although my condition is treatable now as it has sunk in I feel very depressed and angry. I feel a little overwhelmed. Is this normal morning as I learn to deal with my condition, lifestyle changes and potential complication with TTC?

Re: PCOS, coming to terms

  • I found out I had pcos at 18. At first its life changing but you learn to deal. The best thing was my diet change, birth control, prometrium, and eliminating sugar as much as possible. Ttc was hard because of ovulation. I have done iivf and thank god am now 6 weeka pregnant tomorrow. Just keep faith and mke some changes. Gl to u

I have learned actually this year I have pcos.. Kind of made sense since I had very irregular periods and a little more hair growth and a ton of cysts on my ovaries. We did ivf/icsi but we were facing severe male factor issues. Good luck sweetie. There is no cure just managing it.

  • I found out about 3 years ago. I knew TTC would be difficult because I was always irregular. The first Doc I saw about 4years ago was insensitive told me to lose weight, scolded me and made me feel like it was my fault, he never mentioned PCOS. I cried the whole way home. A year later I went to a doctor who was recommended by a friend. he explained everything. He was the one who told me I had PCOS and that all my issues were symptoms of it and none of them were my fault. He was great. However I did the same thing, I got down and depressed. It was hard. There were other things going on in our lives at the time and I couldn't cope. I wish i had joined these groups then. Since then our life has calmed down, my husband has helped me cope, we are going through our first chlomid ovidrel cycle. We are hopeful but cautious. It's normal to be upset but there is hope.
Me: 33 - PCOS & Hypothyroidism DH: 35 - SA is good Married since 2010 (together since 2006) TTC since June 2009 (we knew we would have issues and wanted family right away after we got married). No pregnancies yet. May 2013 - started first round of Chlomid & ovidrel cycle.
  • I know it seems horrible now, I found out last August I had it and I freaked out! But I now know that it's usually easily treatable and there is still plenty of hope for getting PG. You just need to be under an RE's care, take things such as Clomid, do TI, possibly IUI, etc. Now if you have additional issues, like we also have MFI, then that may be another story. If for some reason you have to do IVF, having PCOS can be a blessing in that you might retrieve a lot of eggs, depending on your protocol. At least this has all been my experience, I know everyone is different. GL to you!

  • Found out I had pcos 10 years ago, I have lived normal, I decided I wanted a baby did ivf and now pregnant with twns. Just live your life, exercise, eat healthy and that's it:) It actually gave me time to prepare before getting pregnant. Stay happy, things will work out.
Finally my dream came true:) I'm pregnant!
  • Thank you everyone for your support and encouragement. Please let me know of any tips as I continue on my journey
  • They say low carbs helps. Especially on the metformin sp? One of my doctors had a nutritionist in his office. She had a copy of all my issues and came up with a plan for me. It was working too, I lost weight, but I couldn't pick my self back up at the time so I had stopped. I actually just pulled my diet plan back out to start again. If your insurance allows it, make an appointment. It may help.

  • I learned I had it about 12 years ago when I was 18.  At the time I had no idea how much it would affect my life.  Now I am married and we've been trying to conceive for almost 2 years.  I wish I would have taken it more seriously and paid attention to my diet and exercise.  I have been on Metformin for a while, tried Clomid alone and that didnt work.  Currently I am on CD2 and will be trying clomid, Follistem, and ovidrel this cycle.  Dont be too down, the symptoms really can be managed, and medicine has come a long way.  Good luck to you.
    Ba hahahaha!
