Hi Ladies! This is my first post on this board; I thought it would be fun to connect with some local mamas. My husband and I are expecting our first at the end of August.
As of right now I'm planning on delivering at Fairview Ridges in Burnsville because my excellent OB only delivers there. I'm just looking for some insight. If you delivered there, was the experience nice? If you took their classes, would you recommend them?
TIA for any input!

Re: Fairview Ridges
I delivered my second child at Ridges last July. Mine was an induction because I had reached 40 weeks and could not tolerate the heat any longer. During my labor I was hooked up to the monitors the whole time and felt I could not move anywhere, thus the whole labor was slow progressing. I'm sure I could have gotten up to move, but I was already huge and had terrible back pain during my pregnancy, which as it turned out my daughter was laying on her side from 20 weeks until I delivered. The on-call OB I had was busy and didn't check my progress much. He didn't bother to call the nurses to say his appointments were running late. The nurses at Ridges did an exceptional job and I have no complaints about any of them. It's OK if you don't bring a birth plan the day of labor. The nurses do take good care of you and let you make decisions about what you want to do. You do not need to bring snacks or drinks because they provide it all...including popsicles! Ridges also allows you to bring in food from an outside restaurant if you choose not to eat the hospital food.
I did not take any childbirth classes the second time, but if it's your first child I think classes are helpful to prepare you for the baby's arrival. It's also a good idea to tour the hospital before having the baby so you can get an idea what to expect.
Good luck!
I delivered my first there and plan to deliver my 2nd there in December. I had a good experience. Second what the others say- the nurses are amazing. They did great work. I remember my SO wanting to take my picture after labor and I made a comment about how I looked and my nurse told me I was beautiful, and she gave me a very heartfelt hug goodbye when I changed rooms. They made the experience 100% better than I could have imagined it.
Doctor only comes in to deliver pretty much and you will only have your doctor typically if they are on call at the time if it overnight or weekend. But they told me this so I was prepared. I took the class through them too and I found it interesting and it just calmed me down a lot. Good luck!
This is pretty much what I've heard about Ridges. I've had a few of my friends deliver there and almost all were induced, and several had c-sections. They also don't allow you to eat or move around much (heard this from a friend that delivered there this past fall).
It really depends on what kind of birth you are looking for. If the above doesn't bother you, Ridges will be fine. However if you are looking for a more intervention free birth I would check other hospitals out. I've heard really good things about St. Francis, which is nearby Ridges.
