Went for a run...

I am 23 weeks and went for a run today. I bet in total, between the walks and jogs, it was about 1.5 miles. I haven't jogged in about 10 weeks, but it is finally nice here, so a run was justified.

Now that I am back, I am noticing some cramping pains. I don't even want to move. I know I took 10 weeks off, but I didn't quite expect the pains when I came back. Do other running mamas ever get this? Or was it due to my lack of running? I consider myself active, as I walk almost everyday. It is just the jogging that caused the problems. Does this mean I should stop running?

Re: Went for a run...

  • I stopped running around 20 weeks because I had really bad abdominal cramping after every run. I think in my case it had to do with the fact that the baby seems to be sitting on my bowels : D But it might be a one time thing for you, it's worth trying again in 2 or so days to see how you feel. Good luck!

  • I'm still running at 26.5 weeks and I get cramping, but it subsides when I stop. My doctor said it's normal and the only cause for concern is if the cramping lasts a couple hours after stopping/finishing a run.

  • I have felt this after working out (I'm not really running because I have an old back injury I'm really trying not to aggravate, but I have been using cardio machines and swimming).

Same as other people, my midwife said that as long as it goes away fairly quickly and is not too painful, it is normal.

Good for you for taking a run!

  • Thank you all for this advice!!  The cramping was immediately after I stopped running and I bet it was gone within 15 to 20 minutes, so maybe I will try it again!!
