Heartburn

I've been getting some pretty bad heartburn lately.  Now, I must confess, I do eat a lot of spicy food, but I didn't at all yesterday.  Today I had a bowl of fruit for breakfast and some celery with peanut butter for lunch.

What can I do to make it go away, or at least diminish it a bit? What has worked for you in the past?

Re: Heartburn

  • I eat tums like candy, and will get a script for Zantac later on.

  • Do you guys know of any good natural remedies?  My doctor told me to stay away from medications for the first trimester if I can.

This is gross but the only thing that helped me with my previous pregnancy was baking soda mixed with some water and drink it down. I had the worst heartburn.

Theoretically, I would think that it would work!  I'm definitely going to try it!  Thanks for the help!  Gross or not, I'll take it for the relief!
  • Tums have been working for me. I like that they give me some extra calcium on top of treating the heartburn.

  • I wrote a post identical to this around 5 weeks! I am 8 wks now, and these ladies told me about NOT drinking with meals. It helped me so much, also a glass of milk right before eating helped too. Mine was terrible around 56 weeks and it's gone now... Everybody's different, hope this helps!

I have acid reflux and it has gotten pretty bad with pregnancy. I'm going to talk to my OB about it next time I go, but I'm trying to deal with this without medication as much as I can right now. I'm trying to keep hydrated, sometimes drinking some pop will help, I keep mints on me at all times, try not to eat foods that are spicy or really acidic, and I've been sleeping with my pillows propped up on my back or left side.
