Cat keeps biting at DD

WWYD? She hasn't hurt her or broken her skin. She hisses, slaps and snaps at her. I take it as a 'get away from me' warning. But I can't have her hurt DD. Is this the point where you find the cat a new home?

I have a cat that does this with my DD. It is their way of telling kids to leave them alone. If your DD is like mine she doesn't get the hint and keeps on tormenting the cat. you will know when the cat is really trying to hurt her.

Yes, DD def does not take the hint. I know DD doesn't understand and the cat doesn't understand either. I'll see how it continues to go.

I've taught her to pet her nicely. I think the problem is she gets so excited about the cat. She will run up to her yelling "cat." The cat is about 6 years old. She can be a very moody cat. I just want them both happy with their living situation. That's why I ask if it sounds like she needs a new home. But the other poster makes things work. So I will keep an eye on the situation. I wish the cat would just get away from her instead of doing the other things. Cat can run faster and hide.

Cats naturally like to go up high to get away and have some space.. if you have room for one and can afford it get a cat tree if not put some shelves up for the cat in areas she can get away from the LO.

We have 4 cats one of which is also an older grumpy old cow.. she swiped him once when he scared the beejus out of her when she was asleep on a cat tree.. just a small scratch but it was enough to let my lil guy know he had to play nicely. she is actually wonderful with him, much to our surprise .. they all are. a little nip or scratch won't hurt your LO any... it's like anything else, they learn by trial and error.

this is a good idea, higher area to escape. Since having the baby, the cat hasn't been allowed on the furniture. Maybe she's mad and feels trapped on the floor. I do block the stairs so the cat can get upstairs but DD can't. But I think the cat prefers to be downstairs. Creating her own space, like a cat tree, could be a good solution. Thank you.

No worries, hope it helps.. just make sure you secure cat trees if that is what you choose so your Lil munchkin can't climb on it, or tip it over Btw a little cat dander or hair won't hurt the LO either so letting the cat sit with you isn't a bad thing.

We sit on the floor and pet kitties together and he can be a bit rough at times.. It's just a case of consistently reaffirming gentle and nice and showing him how to pet nicely.. monkey see monkey do... watching you pet kitty on your lap will be just as educational as constantly saying "no dont hit kitty with that spoon"

I'm assuming you have a house cat ....not a pet tiger .. right? Wink

Lol yes, just a house cat. She's always been tempermental. So I don't blame her for getting annoying at someone running at her and yelling in her face. But I will keep working at it. In time, I'm sure they will learn to live with each other. My other cat is super snuggly and rubs on DD. I doubt they will get that close as snugglung isn't this cat's personality.

My DD also gets so excited around the cats. When the cats are sitting calmly on us DD will pet them gently. I have also gated a room off for the cats to go to, which seems to be working.

Check Amazon for Go Pet club cat trees... I was a bit worried these wouldn't last because they are covered in a kind of velour material on the platforms rather than carpet... the uprights are sisal and/or carpet depending on whcih one you get.

I have 4 cats and I have had two of their trees for just over 3 years. they are showing wear and tear on the sisal posts and carpet uprights.. but the platforms are holding up great, way more than I expected with 4 active cats. They have two options.. cheaper cat tree with shipping or more expensive with free delivery if you have prime.

If you only have 1 cat you really can't complain at the price of these. Very easy to put together too and come in allsorts of colors to macth various decors.. we got black and finding black trees is not easy.

We already have the first two....

This is on my list to buy next... but if you only have one cat you really probably don't need something this big.. however I would def consider 5 foot and over to give them some personal space.

My first big cat tree that I bought here in the US was a carpet covered one and cost me close to $400.. These have held up just as well, come in better colors.

They do come in parts so you will have to assemble them, but for the most part its simply a case of turning the pillars on threaded pins and a handfull of bolts. Don't let it fool you when you first open the box, the houses seem really flimsy but they do hold up to the cats weight because they sit on the shelves. The pillars are cardboard tubes with plastic caps for the fittings... I am used to wooden pillars so was worried about the strength of these.. but I truly cannot complain.

These things have been dragged around and moved from one part of the apartment to another and other than losing the dangly toy on the shorter one because it got some serious harassment from my cats..and some obvious wear on the carpet pillars due to 4 claw bearing kitties who make very good use of the pillars... we're still going strong. I bought these before We adopted #4 and the only reason for getting the new one is the added platforms to save on arguements about who gets to sleep where lol.

Not only will it give your cat somewhere to hang out in peace it's also good excercise and gives them something to scratch on so they won't shred carpets drapes or furniture.

all I can say is.. WORTH EVERY PENNY for various reasons. Yes and when you look at the longterm of happy cats and kids and parents... less than a buck a day is not a big deal. Amazon prices can fluctuate so add it to your cart and keep an eye on it till it hits a price you like... no guarantee but I have had some great deals on stuff I wanted from Amazon by doing that.

Thanks for sharing Wipz! I hadn't figured out what to buy yet. Yesterday went the same as usual: cat getting annoyed. DD will need to learn as she gets older to not be so in her face. But I DO think a tree will help the situation.

No worries, I know from experience that cat trees can be bloody expensive, but they are a good investment in the long run. I just thought I'd share these since I was a bit concerned about the coverings when I got mine but they turned out to be really good deal and trust me my kitties aren't gentle on them lol.

It will take a while but they will learn to place nicely..
