Parenting after a Loss

Bottle Fail

I never was able to exclusively breast feed DS1. Anyway DS2 is a champ at it. At his 3 week appointment he was a little over 8 lbs but he was over his birth weight of 6 lbs 13 oz at his one week appt weighing in at 7.

My problem is he won't take a bottle and I'm going back to work in 2 weeks. Any suggestions?

My suggestion is to approach it like a breast, don't just stick it in like a bottle. Approach him with the nipple at a 90 degree angle and just lightly place it against the space above his lip, like the BF videos say to do with your own nipple. Then wait for him to open his mouth and "accept" the nipple, when you can slowly slide the nipple down and in, and then raise the angle.

Also, make sure you use a slow flow nipple (my LC recommended the preemie Dr. Browns), so he still has to work for it and doesn't become a lazy, or worse, unwilling, nurser.
