My husband and I are moving to the Roosevelt Historic Neighborhood next month, and I am just over a month pregnant. We know very few people in the area; what are the cool spots? What are your favorite things to do in the area? Are there any couples in a similar age/interest bracket that may be interested in hanging out?
Me: almost 30/ education student who likes yoga, dance, creativity, and outdoor adventures
Him: 35/ works in finance, interested in sports and outdoor activites, also a fooseball addict
Re: Downtown/Central Bumpies??
This board is MOLASSES slow!
I am from moving from Tucson, but am originally from Michigan.
HAHA I KNOW! There is never anyone on here!!! I would've responded but I don't live in that area so I don't know! Good luck
Hubs and I live approx 7ish miles from your neighborhood; we're around 12th St and Glendale. It depends on what you consider the "cool" spots!
If you're looking for large quantities of people, there are 4 or 5 major malls - Tempe, Scottsdale, and Peoria (Closest ones I prefer are Scottsdale and Tempe). I prefer camping to shopping though, so I'm more interested in the 2 hour drive to Payson. People really enjoy floating down the Salt River in the summer. I've never done it but always wanted to.
Troy is 31, I'm 25. We've been married 10 months. He's an Electrician and I'm finishing my Communications degree. We're Den Leaders for the Cub Scouts and loving every minute! We're very outdoorsy, but I'm not in as good a shape as I used to be so we don't really do any hiking; I enrolled in a gym not that long ago so hopefully I can fix that!
I'm in midtown. Very close to downtown! There's all kinds of stuff to do. Lots of bars, restaurants, galleries, small shops, etc.. T
he farmers market on Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings is great. Very seasonal, so if it's super hot out, don't go looking for flowers, but you'll find plenty of other stuff. There's food truck friday every friday at the same location as the farmers market too. If you go east on Roosevelt you'll run into the little main arts district. Made is a great shop there. Jobot is a coffee place next door and The Lost Leaf is a fun bottled beer bar/venue/gallery. You'll find a bunch of other stuff if you keep wandering around that area. Bodega 420 is an awesome quick mart type shop with a kids clothing store as well as local goods including ice cream.
If you go west you'll find the grand avenue arts district. There's a dive bar on the corner that the local hipsters have descended on but it's still a fun spot for cheap drinks. It's the oldest tiki bar in phoenix as well. There's kooky crafts next to that as well as a venue called the trunk space. They have lots of great bands of all kinds coming through.
I am a downtown bumpy.
Delivering @ St. Joes Hospital.
Been married for 3y3m. DH is 27 Me, 23
Husband is in the USMC reserves & Border Patrol & I work at the Veterans Hospital in the ER.
If you're at third avenue then you're still close to the other stuff but you'll have a pita jungle, Lola coffee, a couple of great vintage shops mercantile and vintage by misty, a couple salons volr and mercantile and a natural medicine/apothecary type store right there.
Roosevelt is the main line of what's going on downtown but there are lots of things around you! Go for lots of walks and you'll find something.
Also, the first Friday of every month there is a really big art walk. Driving anywhere will be impossible that night but it's the perfect opportunity to get on your bike or your chevrolegs. Everything is open late.
