Budgetting for Childcare

We live near the West Loop of Chicago and just found out we are pregnant.  Any one have any information on costs of child care?  (nanny shares, in-home day care, day care center, etc)?

Thanks!

Re: Budgetting for Childcare

  • When we were asking around in the suburbs, we found in home daycares to be around $50/day and nannies to be around $10/hour.   We didn't look at bigger daycare centers, or city prices though, so not sure what the comparison is.

  • Childcare in the city is pricey. I am raising three kids in the city. We lived in Streeterville and now Lincoln Park. If you are looking at a nanny, presume $13-$15 per hour (less if you can find a good nanny share) and center-based care starts at roughly $100-$130 per day. I found NPN to be a great resource for finding nannies, nanny share opportunities. If you are thinking about a nanny placement agency, I also highly recommend Olive You Nanny. Good luck!
  • Nannies will run $12-15 an hour in the city.  I do in-home day care and charge $375 a week, have a friend who also does it and charges $360 a week.  Don't know too much about centers, but I have a friend pays $410 a week for infant care at a center.
  • I live in the city, near West Loop area. I've been looking into day care centers in the area and have found the rates to be $1600 - 1700 per month. Now, I'm trying to find about home day cares in the area.

When are you due? Would you be interested in a nanny share?
