progesterone - when are you a candidate?

I had a cerclage put in at week 19 due to a shortened cervix of 21mm. I am currently 23w4d and on SBR. I go to MFM every week for checks. I have lengthened to 29mm but have shortened back down to 21mm. They are happy that it's not shorter than it was at the time of surgery. I have had funneling too, but they never seem to talk much about that. Is that weird? Anyhow...the last 2 weeks the sonographer has asked if I'm taking progesterone. I said no but have wondered about it.

What is anyone's experience with it? Why aren't they giving it to me? It can't hurt right? If it can help my situation, I want to take it. I'm confused....

  • Different docs have different approaches to progesterone.  There's limited evidence that it is helpful with multiples pregnancies, but my MFM put me on it, saying "it can't hurt."

  • I did not have a cerclage either and no change in cervix but my oldest was born early so they said let's try to see said it could not hurt. I did weekly shots of 17P in the butt 17-33weeks. I did have preterm labor but I do think the shots helped.

We had the same suggestion from our doc as CNYBride05. My partner is just in recovery from her cerclage 21weeks, funneling and they started progesterone suppositories last night because "it couldn't hurt".

Same. I'm on 200mg nightly suppositories.

Same. I also have a pessary inserted instead of a cerclage. I'm on modified bed rest, and although there's not much improvement, it's not getting shorter either which is always a good thing.
