Re: Clicky: Plans After Baby

  • How about those of us that have to work because we can't afford not to?!

  • That's what I meant by the second option, but now I don't see the option to go back and clarify that.

oops! I misread "would if I could [work]" not stay at home. Yeah my student loans would come hunt me down if I tried to take time off work!

Really wish I could jsut stay home... esp since this is baby #2 & DS will be only about 2. I'm hoping he will be a little more easy going when the time comes. He tends to be a rather high maintenance kid!

  • I will kind of be doing both. I run a daycare out of my home, so I'll be able to work while staying home with my baby.
    Lilypie Angel and Memorial tickers
  • I really wish I could do that, but I currently bring in about 70% of our income so that is not an option. H is going to switch to WAH and then my mom will come help around noon. I am super jealous and am already feeling mom guilt about having to return to a 42.5 hr work week six weeks after giving birth.
  • I love working but I'd really love to work part time. Unfortunately daycare for part time is practically the same as full time.

  • My situation doesn't fit either. I'm losing my job either at the end of September or when the baby comes. We will be moving shortly after the baby arrives but we'll only be there for 6 months. I'll start looking for a job as soon as we know where we're going next. Such is the life of a military life.

  • I would like to stay home for the first year, but DH and I are still discussing.  At most, I'm hoping I can work part-time/freelance for my current company (if they would be receptive).

  • We decided we wanted to have a two income household.  However, my husband can work more hours 4 days a week and have a 3 day weekend and I'm hoping to negotiate the same.  That way the baby won't have one of us for only 3 days out of a week, in which we plan to have a caregiver at our house.

  • I'm going to go back to work until baby #2 comes.  We live in a very expensive area and it would not be the best decision to cut off an entire salary.  I need to help DH saving up for a house so we can move out of our condo!

You should have added "special snowflake" - I will be home off of work for 1 year after little one arrives but then I will go back to part-time.  I would LOVE to find someway to do 4 days a week....... wishful thinking.

  • I wish I could go to part time, but I don't think my company will be on board.  I love working, and I'm the primary earner in our family, but we could make it work with H's salary and me part time.  I just don't see my boss going for it.

Any current moms that went back to work full time?  How do you deal with the guilt?  I'm already feeling guilty.

  • I love being a working mom, so I'll be returning FT again, but I do WFH one day a week, so I think it's perfect!  Work for 4 days and with my kids for 3 :)

ETA: I should add that my mom watches my kids while I work, so that makes a huge difference too!

I love my job and did go back to work full time after DD1 and was miserable.  I now freelance and work outside the home 2-3 days a week and from home the other days.  It's a hard balance, but I'm still the breadwinner for my family.  After Baby #2 we'll have to reasses.   I don't think we can afford two in part-time day care so DH may have to quit his job and find something part-time that fits with my schedule.

But I will also be the first to admit I am not stay-at-home-mom material.  I give props to ladies to do it.  It is HARD.

  • I work at home (run my own business) and stay at home with the kids (no child care). That doesn't really fit into any of those categories, though.

  • I would love to stay home, but I will return to work for a little while. H and I live in two separate states, but we plan to move next summer to be where he is stationed. Once that happens, finances should be to where I can stay at home. We'll see what happens.

This is exactly my situation too...and I love my job, and so there was no debate at all in terms of if I'd go back. I also do a work from home Wednesday, which is perfect--2 days in the office, 1 day home, 2 days in the office, weekend. :-)

DD#1 is in 1/2 day preschool on that day and DD#2 is with a sitter, so that is how it works as well as it does.

Will baby #3 be another girl?

  • I would love to stay home for a year and then go to work after that, but I definitely love our lifestyle too much to be a SAHM.  I am going to take 12 weeks like I did with DS and then head back to work.
  • I work full time during the day and also waitress a few nights a week.  This will continue with LO #2.  When DH has more overtime I cut back at the restaurant but lately with the economy he hasn't had it and we need the extra cash so I work more at night.  It's not easy but we make do.

  • I really like working (most days!) and I really like my job and the people I work with. I couldn't imagine not working - NOT that staying home isn't work. I recognize that it totally is. I couldn't imagine not running the corporate rat race.

I just wish daycare wasn't so expensive...

  • There are not nearly enough choices in this clicky poll! There isn't one that fits my situation. How about an SS option next time?

I work full time -- partly from home and partly in the dance studio. I will be able to stay home during the day and teach in the evenings while my husband (and sometimes my mother) stays with the baby.

  • I went back to work after DD was born and was downsized shortly after her 1st birthday. In the meantime MH got a better job and made it much easier financially for me to stay home for awhile with her. I definitely intend to return to the workforce at some point, when our last child (planning on three total) is in preschool.  For now, I adore being home with her and I feel very blessed to be able to do so.

  • I'm a SAHM now, so I would love to continue and keep the kidlets home until kindergarten, if I don't homeschool haha
  • My plan is to return to work after 4 weeks.  Interestingly, DH is considering staying home post baby.
