Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

She Hits Herself!

My daughter is 14 months old and has started hitting herself in the head.  She does a lot when we tell her No and then other random times.  We try ignoring her or saying No Hit! but she keeps doing it.  Any advice or anyone else's LO doing the same things?

  • My LO did the same thing for a while, at about that age. Not sure why. But she grew out of it.

My son just turned 17 months and he has been doing this for the last few weeks. He hits himself in the head with both hands and says, "No!" while he's doing it. It upsets me to see him do it and I don't know where he learned it from (daycare?). Hopefully it's just a phase he will pass out of soon. He also hits us and other kids, too. Not cool.

  • My ds does this when his head hurts from teething. He almost always has a low grade fever when he is doing it a lot.

  • Thanks Everyone!  We will just keep trying to ignore her...she smiles when she does it, so I do believe it is for attention.  I just hate when she does it, especially in front of other people!  She's been doing it for over a month so I don't think it's teething or anything related to that.
