We got the Exergen one as a baby shower gift, we like it. Only catch is when we went to interview pediatricians they all said they would want us to take a rectal temp for the first 6 months when/if they get sick. So now we have both.
Although they are much easier to use and are more convenient, they really are not the most accurate. Rectal temperature is the best way to check for fever in babies (or anyone for that matter
If you want to avoid a ton of doctor's visits because of "fever", use a rectal thermometer.
And FYI, you only need the small red tip to be inserted in the anus, so it does not hurt baby at all.
Our pedi wants rectal temperatures, because they are the most accurate, but we still got a forehead one and a rectal one. We'll use the forehead one to monitor the temp, but the rectal one before we call the ped.
Same here - at our pede interview last week, he said the Exergen temporal one was fine, but that if we called he would always have us double check the reading with a rectal, especially in the first two months before you can give Tylenol. So we have both.
