I'm so sorry I haven?t been around much lately. I've been frantically trying to wrap up everything at work and finish my PhD before our sweet boy came. Despite the distance, I still thought of you all often and cherish all the support and love you?ve shown me over this long journey to our precious rainbow. I am forever grateful to you all. I would have never made it here without you! Thank you thank you thank you!
Now for the details!
Short version ? Andrew John III (nicknamed ?Trey?) was born on May 15th at 1125 via c-section at 38w5d. He weighed in at 9lbs 3oz, 21.6 inches long. He is healthy and perfect in every way. We are so in love!!!
Long version ? I was having contractions and lots of tightness at 32w, so they had me come in for a cervical check and a test to see if labor was likely to start soon. Both were fine, but I was measuring ahead and with the tightness, they sent me for an u/s just to check. After an u/s showed borderline high fluid levels (AFI ~25), they sent me to a peri for a level 2 u/s. There I was DX w/ mild Polyhydramnios and I had to start weekly BPP and NST?s on different days. Our little man was also measuring off the charts in certain aspects (est 6+lbs at 32w, 9+lbs at 36w3d, and a whopping 10lbs10oz at 38w3d). He did great though with all the tests, always moving around crazy amounts. He was head down, but always moving and twisting or an ?unstable lie.? The estimated size of the baby combined with the excess fluid (which ranged from 22-35AFI over the weeks) landed me a c-section. It was mostly the fluid level that drove the decision as there are a lot of inherent risks with both going into labor and the water breaking on its own (e.g., cord prolapse, placenta abruption, etc), as well as delivery issues with the positioning (unstable lie, not dropping properly). The c-section was a little rough because our little man is a wiggler! I had two OB?s trying to get him out and every time they would try to grab him he would twist into a position that made it hard. I had one OB pushing super hard up by my ribs to try to push him down and into the right position while the other tried to pull him out. Eventually forceps and suctioning helped get him out safely! I wasn?t in pain, but felt TONS AND TONS of pressure during this part. I actually asked if they were breaking my ribs because it felt like I had people sitting on my chest! My OB who is awesome said it was one of her hardest c-section deliveries ever. Once I saw his sweet face though, I didn?t care what they had to do to get him out safely! He is such a miracle and a blessing. Mom and dad are madly in love!
And now the good stuff:
