Hi ladies - I am putting together a "survival kit" for my SIL who is due next month. She has a shower tomorrow and I want to put together this kit/basket of everything you need for the first couple weeks after giving birth to help with recovery and adjusting to a new baby. I have a short list so far:
Nursing bra(s), Colace, Tucks pads, Gel pads (for nipples), Lanolin, Regular pads for bleeding
That's all I have right now. We are pretty close so it won't be weird for me to give her this stuff - even though a lot of it is pretty personal! LOL I just want to make sure she is comfortable and has everything she needs. Do you have anything to add that is a MUST?
Re: Must-haves for right after giving birth
Oh yes that's a good idea!

This is a good one. I had the book and read it before I had DS and it was helpful for sure - maybe I can do that for her as well!

Unflavored/unscented lip balm in case the lanolin makes her nipples too soft.
A&A swaddling blankets.
Happiest Baby on the Block DVD and book.
LLL info and any other local BFing resources (that way, she can get support without having to search for it).
Heavy but not greasy hand lotion since changing diapers and washing your hands constantly dries them out like crazy.
For food stuff, one of my cousins recommended that we buy plastic silverware, cups and plates so there was less to wash. She also recommended take out. So, a list of local places, with menus, that do delivery would be great along with a basket of disposable silverware, cups and plates. She was right - having less to wash during those few weeks was really helpful.
ETA: It may also be helpful to put in some natural milk production "enhancers" like oatmeal and dark beer.
YES - Dermoplast! Pharmacies sell it, I think in the bandaid section.
Other things like small sized shampoo, lotion, and bath gel would be great for her to have at the hospital. Maybe a cute container to put everything in it that she can use again?

Chocolate! Or healthy snacks too!
Also my SIL gave me a swaddle me blanket which was my lifesaver the second night at home when he would not go to sleep.
Yoga pants and nursing tops are at the top of my list too, along with Tucks pads, some kind of numbing cream/spray and granny panties :]
