Anyone heard of Essure?

I had my post partum check up today and discussed birth control options with my doc. We're pretty sure we're done and have been discussing a vasectomy for H. My doc mentioned someone called Essure that's a permanent solution for women. It's in-office, they give you a Valium, a local anesthetic and insert a plastic piece into your fallopian tubes that scars over so eggs can't descend. It's apparently 99.97% effective and irreversible. I've never met anyone who's had it done- have you?

  • I've heard of it before - but never met anyone who had it done.

I plan on talking about it with my OB once we are 100% sure we are done having kids. We think we are about 95% sure we are done with 2 - but I'm still young (28) and DH is only 31 - so we are going to wait a few more years before either of us does anything permanent.

I've heard of it, but don't know anyone who's done it.  Maybe check over on Parenting since they have a bigger crowd.

  • I had it done in 2008. It failed that year and I had my 3rd child. Check out the Facebook page
    Essure problems

Over 1500 women are on the site

Essure was released into th general market at as a stage 3 medical device, which means their initial testing was good so they did not do 10 full years of testing. The first 10 years of people implanted were the test subjects. We have many children AND medical issues, most commonly due to developed allergy to he nickel it's made out of.

Research issues before you jump. Conceptus is paying ALOT in kickbacks and its so much cheaper then surgery so docs and Insurance companies love it.

Whoa, thanks for the feedback. That's pretty crazy. I'll definitely research it; after talking with H last night, I think we're still going to go with the vasectomy for him.
