Someone on my Oct board asked what we have done so far to prepare for baby. I have done nothing. We still have everything from before, so the only thing I can think of hat I need to get is a baby book! There are a few things I'd like to have this time, like a rock n play, but they aren't necessary.
We live in a 2 bedroom house, so I already have a 'boys room' decorated. I guess I need to go through Jacks clothes and rewash them, too. But what else do I need to do? What did you do to prepare for the second baby of the same sex?
I used to be a big deal. Now I'm just old.
Re: Moms of 2 boys/2 girls
Ummm, baby book, a 2nd crib, double stroller, bottle nipples, pump parts, mamakangaroo wrap thingy, diapers, formula, wipes... can't really think of anything else. I bought another playmat for B but that wasn't absolutely necessary.
Its fun going through old clothes and remembering what G was like in them
. And even though we have all of Gs hand me downs, they're the wrong season, kwim? Like when G was this age, it was fall so he has a lot of pants and long sleeve tops. B wears them right now but its kinda hot for them. Its a good excuse to go shopping lol.
Oh, I just thought of stuff for YOU liike nipple cream, breast pads and stuff like that.
I don't think I did much until about 6ish weeks before my due date (and he came 3 weeks early, so it really was just before he was born).
I would pick up a box of breast pads and some newborn/size 1 diapers whenever I was at BRU or Target - that way it didn't seem like some huge expense/trip. Just an extra $10/15 each time I went to the store that month.
I sorted through the boxes of clothes and got out the things I think I would use in the newborn, 0-3 and 3 month sizes. Some things like fleece sleeper/swaddlemes, long sleep onesies, etc I left in the box since DS2 was born in the summer unlike DS1.
The nursery was already done/ready since we moved Jonny out to his big boy room about 3 weeks before DS2 was born.
We got the swing out and set up about that time too.
I think you still have plenty of time!
Ooooooh yea, I totally forgot about breast pads. I flew through boxes last time. I need to find a reusable/washable alternative that can keep up in case I have an oversupply again! Thanks for the reminder!
Luckily I think the sizes I have will work for the same season. This little guy will hopefully only be born about 6 weeks earlier in the year than Jack was.
Jilly, I wish I could do another nursery! Maybe I will switch up J's room a little.
Are you having the boys share a room?
We're in a 2-bedroom and DH is convinced that we have to move if/when we add another child into the mix. He would be okay with older kids sharing a room, but is convinced that we all will go crazy if a baby and a toddler/pre-schooler share a room.
BFP #2 5/27/12. EDD 2/1/13. m/c and D&C 6/21/12.
We are hoping to have them share for a while. The baby will most likely be in our room in a pack n play for a few months, like we did with J. Then we will see how the transition to room sharing goes.
Eventually I'd like to get a bigger house, but we bought this one when we had 2 incomes, and right now we only have one. So we will have to make some changes in order to do that.
Your posts are making me feel so much better about getting ready for this baby, since I'm 5 weeks out and haven't done a whole lot! I feel like a total loser when I go on my new BMB, since everybody is all geared up with showers & decorating nurseries, etc.
I did get a double stroller (I won the battle of the bungee cords with DH for those of you who saw that post :0), and bought some new clothes and washed them since the seasons are exactly opposite for newbie. I've got lots of projects other started - curtains cut out, but not sewn for S's new room, coupons clipped for diapers, but not purchased, etc. etc. I'd like to finish his new room by the end of next week, and find a really cute coming home from the hospital outfit for the new little one. I haven't even thought about sanitizing bottles and buying nipples, since DS1 breastfed constantly, but that's worth considering.
For DS3, I only bought a few more diapers since DS2 would still be in them. We were given a crib otherwise we would have bought that as well.
ETA: We have all three boys ages 6,2 and 10 months sharing a room even though we have a spare room. They love it!

i didn't do much:
-set up a second change area in the room we'd be in most
-set up the co-sleeper next to our bed
-washed newborn pajamas, nursing bras, and breast pads
-made a special small toy box for O to use while i nursed
what i WISHED i had done:
-hung blackout curtains in our bedroom where the newbie would sleep
-bought a swing for the newbie (had reflux and would not sleep unless held or swung in quiet room)
-second white noise maker
-second cool mist humidifier
**it was a pain to set up the two above in between half hour naps that occurred every half hour, while also dealing with a toddler
-new pump parts, new bottles
ps....i use fuzzybunz reusable breast pads and they are awesome. got them on amazon.
pss, duncan is a year old now and the boys still sleep in separate rooms. we thought theyd be together by now, and im sure for some people that works. he insists on waking much before 6:00 am though, and i just dont want to mess with oliver's sleep. because of this, i wish i would have organized our room a little better for duncan for the long run. our plan is to have them together before duncan is 18 months.
good luck!
