Next size prefolds...

Right now we just have the size 1 osocozy unbleached prefolds. I think they'll fit our six week old for a while longer, but what is the next size we should buy? Also, what's you're favorite brand/material?

I know I could easily do some online window shopping, but I like knowing people's experiences and opinions.

Thanks!

Re: Next size prefolds...

  • I bought some GMD yellow edges, which are about the same length, but a bit wider, so they fit at least a month longer.  I liked them better than the Osocozys because they were softer.  The size after that is the red edge in GMD.  When I bought the yellow edges, I bought one red edge just to try, so I would know when I wanted to size up.  I actually ended up switching over to pockets and never got any more red edges.

You don't necessarily have to buy the next size of prefolds because, by the time LO is big enough to need them, they are usually past the EBF/EFF constantly pooping stage.  Then, you can start trifolding the ones you already have into a cover.

To the last paragraph, really? Is my baby just growing like a weed? He's 6 mos. next week and has been wearing med GMD prefolds for a while now. In fact, we just bought large prefolds and fitteds because the med red edge prefold is getting harder to snappi. We'll start introducing him to solids in June, so hopefully we can do the trifold soon after.

Anyway, I definitely recommend at least buying the next size up in prefolds if that's the diapering route you're taking. We like GMD prefolds. They give their measurements and weight recommendations on their website.

I'm with you. DD is 16 months old and has been in GMD reds for an entire year.

I would not be able to tri-fold OsoCozy size 1s for her because they would not be absorbent enough (I ended up selling mine).

I don't know.  Maybe I am misremembering.  I feel like DS stopped pooping constantly before we even started solids.  But yeah, his yellow edged GMDs became impossible to snappi around 3 or 3 1/2 months and I bought a stash of pockets instead.  Maybe I would have needed the red edges if I continued with prefolds.  I do know that, at a year old, I can easily use a trifolded yellow edge in daytime dipes.

Not true. My ds still has peanutbuttery poo every once and a while. I find using a snappi with a red edge prefold much easier to do and contains the mess.
