I believe my toddler (turned two on Monday) is going through growing pains for two weeks now. She is constantly whiny, needy and saying "owwee". When asked to show me her "owwee" she doesn't but continues to whine. It takes us 1 hour to put her to bed now compared to 15 minutes before. She overworks herself when she cries with tears, snot and drooling. We have a doctor's appointment today, but I was curious to see if anyone else has experienced this behavior?
Re: Growing Pains
I haven't experienced them in my child (yet), but went through a similar experience with my dog, actually. I'm currently of the opinion that "growing pains" is mostly a BS label thrown on the "eh, something hurts in their body but we don't see an injury and they'll feel better in a few days/weeks" problem.
I *DO* believe that you can have different parts of the body grow at different speeds (this is actually well documented in dogs), so when you have, for instance, leg bones that are fairly suddenly a different proportion length to each other than they were the week before, the body is going to take some time to work out the new biomechanics. And that can be uncomfortable.
I have no real advice. If my daughter comes to me with "growing pains", I will probably take her to my chiropractor (who works on kids as well), and possibly the cranio-sacral therapist we've seen for her, to help her be as well aligned as she can. Then we'll get lots (as much as she tolerates) physical exercise of different forms (swimming, running, climbing, roughhousing, dancing, etc.) to help her "reacclimate" to the changes in her body. I don't know if it'll work - I haven't been there yet - but that's my plan if it comes up.
Good luck, and I hope your LO is feeling better soon!
