low lying placenta & exercise?

Yesterday at my A/S, once it was complete, the U/S tech started inputting some stats into her computer.  We could see the tv screen showing what she was inputting.  She typed ?low lying placenta? ? but she didn?t say anything about it.  I asked if it was a concern and she said ?no?, but that they would probably do another U/S later one to ensure the placenta has moved up with the growth of the uterus.

However, I will not see my OB for another 2 weeks.  Once I got home I started wondering if ?low lying placenta? has any adverse effects right now, and of course I googled.  It seems some OB?s put women on exercise restriction.  And some don?t.  Some say not to lift more than 10 pounds??my son is 30 pounds.

Has anyone else experienced low lying placenta, and if so, what did your Dr/OB say?  What about exercising and lifting?

Re: low lying placenta & exercise?

  • I've had it both times and it's not a concern this early on. Usually as your uterus grows, it pulls the placenta up higher. OB said it would only be a concern if it stayed low and anterior and I needed a csection.
Low lying isn't the same as previa.

  • Is that the same as placenta Previa? I'm pretty sure it is.... And if so I'm on pelvic rest but they didn't say anything about exercise or lifting, although many women are restricted to that as well. You could call your ob office and ask a nurse. That's probably what I would do. My regular ob did not put me on pelvic rest, but my MFM did. So I think it just depends on the doctor?

well never mind then! I wouldn't worry about it.

Mine is low as well but my doctor hasn't restricted any activity. She said to let her know if I experience any spotting but that is it.

Like PP said hopefully it will move up and not be a problem.

Exactly. :-)  I did briefly discuss this with the tech.

It's just when I google, some forums have women saying they have low lying placenta, and they preface that it's not as bad as previa - but their doctors told them to take it easy and not lift much weight.

Thanks!  I had some "catch me off guard", and "ouch" cramping or possible "lightning crotch" for a long time yesterday.  I guess it's just me growing and stretching, but it wasn't fun.

There is a cardio funk class I want to go to tonight, but I was initially hesitant since I had that cramping for a while yesterday and since I wasn't sure if there were any precautions to take with low lying placenta.

  • I had placenta previa with DD at my anatomy scan but when I went in for a follow up a few weeks later it had corrected itself. It's pretty common and usually moves as your belly grows.

  • Hi I got told on Tuesday that I have this also. They plan to rescan me at 36 weeks to see if its moved. They have just told me to rest as much as possible and not lift anything heavy.. I have a 2 year old so that's going to be quite difficult. I'm just trying not to worry I'm sure everything will be fine xx
