mobile: nosy comments go here!
Today while checking out at wal-mart my dd was sitting in her ergo (baby carrier) sleeping. The cashier came around the front of the check out area and said, "Can your baby even breathe in there!!!" very loudly. The cashier was being annoying because my baby's face was showing and it was obvious she could breathe. The check-out lady took her hand and pulled the side strap of the ergo away from my body and tried to push dd's head away from my body. I was so shocked i jumped back and put my arms around the carrier in a motion that meant- back off! She went back behind the counter and said "I don't think babies are comfortable when their moms make them go in those things." I told her my baby was plenty comfortable, thank you.
A couple weeks ago i took her grocery shopping. It was 68 degrees and drizzling. An older man said, "Your taking a baby out that little in this kind of weather!" her car seat was covered and she never got a drop of rain on her.
And days before when it was bright and sunny I went to pick up my contacts. I parked right in front of the door (in the handicapped spot actually because all the other spots were taken) I walked the 3 steps from my car door, over the side walk and when I stepped inside a woman said, "get that baby out of that sun!"
I guess no matter the weather I can't go out huh?
Anyone want to share the annoying nosy comments you have been given in regards to your little one?
Re: nosy comments go here!
Mine was today. I was putting DS carseat into a shopping cart. It slipped out of my hands and dropped the last inch before hitting the bottom. DS didn't even notice. Then this man comes up and says "wow mom your pretty rough with him. Can't believe he's not crying, he must be used to it" he was half joking I guess but give me a break. It's an infant carseat that's been crash tested. You really think that inch drop mattered?!?!

Wow. I think the cashier takes the cake. Pretty sure I would have laid into her.
After 24 hours of back labor with 0 dilation or progress of any kind, a nurse tried to convince me that I shouldn't get a c/s and that I should wait even though it could take days...because she has 3 kids that were born naturally. She also kept saying that I was there for an elective induction. I almost punched her in the face and really want to send my doctor after her to explain that a) I was not there electively, I was there under my doctor's advisement that she should come out and b) during my c/s, my doctor tried to push his way through my cervix from the inside and it would.not.budge. He said there was no way I was going to have a vaginal delivery.
I have people comment on how I plan on feeding DS saying that I'm going to deprive him of McDonald's a stuff! Why yes I am. He doesn't need it. I hate when people tell me how to parent

A lady at the grocery store said to me "Your daughter is adorable, what is her name?" I said "His name is Vincent" She then looked at me like I told her the world was ending. Well, I've gotten this before, he does have long eyelashes, and wasn't really wearing anything screaming 'boy'...She demanded I prove he was a boy!
I laughed, thinking she was joking...she then went to try to unbutton his onesie! I shoved her hand away and sternly said to not touch my child and I told her that if she insisted again on seeing my baby's genitals, I was going to call security. I left my buggy behind and high tailed it out! My lord, I know my son is awful pretty... but eesh.
What the WHAT?!?! I'd have spilled my crazy all over that lady!!
isn't it annoying how they always add a fake laugh to make it seem like they are joking?

I have one from today!
I have gotten everything from "congrats" to "wow, you'll be busy" to "there is no way you'll be able to handle them both." WTF?
I also got one last week from a lady at a coffee shop who said DD might need EI because her speech was weird. She said her 25 mos old can use short phrases (and have for a month!), and that she understands everything he says. She mentioned that I needed to get DD tested since her words still sound like gibberish and at her age, I should be concerned.
I told her that DD was actually 19 months (she thought DD was older than her DS, maybe cuz he was running around like a terror while DD sat nicely and ate, but whatevs) and that her "gibberish" was actually Chinese. I said I could understand DD just fine in BOTH English and Chinese and that I am not concerned with her speech at all.
Who goes around recommending EI to people?!?!

^ I got a two-part response to this: my oldest brother (he's 14 now), needed speech therapy, and he *still* gets speech therapy, due to both mental and physical impairments. I can't tell you how many times I've heard people refer to his speech as "gibberish", though most were kind enough not to make him feel embarrassed about it, and would just look to me politely to translate.
I highly doubt you wouldn't notice your own child needing services *if.that.were.the.case*, but seriously, parents need to stop.commenting.about.*perceived*.impairments (that 99% of the time, prove to be unfounded and worse, unwarranted.
Second part of the response, is that I was raised bilingual from birth (Dad is American, Mom is German), and I couldn't talk for a long time. And then when I did, I could talk in both languages
I think it's awesome to have a child learn another language so early (and studies seem to agree it's easier for them to soak it up now, then later!)
But yeah - all these stories make me glad that I haven't really had any big "WTF stranger?!" moments . . . the "worst" was last week, when I went shopping, and an older mom touched my DS' big cheeks (they are pretty irresistible), and an older man smoothed his hair, talking about how much he missed his grandbabies out of state. My DH was like, "I could really see how that would piss people off - just random people touching our kid." (but so long fingers didn't go in his mouth, and/or people trying to undress him/see his genitals, I'm okay

Oh. Em. Gee.. I would have smacked that lady's hand!! I have zero tolerance when people criticize my babywearing.. whether it be in an Ergo or my woven.. some people just need to be smacked!!! LOL.
I don't have anything to add "nosy comments" wise, but had to comment on that woman's audacity!
Oh, I can sort of comment a little.. this isn't nosy, but caught me way off guard.. when DS was very young, like less than 3 months.. we took him to our favorite local Italian place for dinner.. the server there (someone we've never had before) kept making a huge fuss over DS.. she then asked if she could HOLD him.. it was SO uncomfortable.. she went and washed her hands and everything but.. really? Who does that??! I didn't know how to say no, either! I was just kind of like.. uh... oh and she asked me if I was nursing, to which I responded no, and she laughed and gestured to my chest and said sorry, she just assumed I was... hmmm.. LOL thanks?
OH MY GOSH I would have spazzed on that lady!
When DD was really young (a few weeks old) we went to the grocery store; one of the first outings we did without DH. As most newborns do, she started to cry. I was checking out of the store and getting my bags in the carriage and DD is in the cart in her carseat screaming. This employee comes over and says "I just had to come rescue this poor child. WHAT is the matter with her?" And starts touching her hands and feet to console her. Poor child? SERIOUSLY? She acted like I was beating her. She was hungry, so I took her home (5 mins away) and fed her. And by the way lady, get your filthy grocery store mitts off my newborn!!!!!
Separate story, my daughter is in the (long) phase of taking things off - socks, shoes, mittens, hats, you name it. So we were shopping last winter and she was all bundled with her hat, mittens etc. when we went into the store, but she took it all off while we were in there. Before we left the store I put her mittens back on, and as I'm pushing her out the door she ripped them off again. This snarky woman walks by me and says really loudly "That baby needs MITTENS!". I wanted to take the mittens (which are attached my a string that feeds through the arms of her jacket, so they don't get lost) and strangle that woman with them!
We just don't have good luck in grocery stores.
Holy crap! This mama would be in jail for laying that cashier O-U-T if she had tried that crap with me! Kudos to you for controlling yourself!
Reading all these stories- especially the super creepy ones regarding strangers and baby genitalia- makes me super grateful I don't really have anything other than sympathy to add to this conversation!
