Convertible car seat

So ladies, lets talk convertible car seats! DS was 25.5 inches at his 4 month appointment, our Chicco Key Fit 30 infant car seat only goes to 30 inches. He is so going to meet the height limit before the weight limit.

What has anyone purchased for a convertible? Have you started using it yet? If so, pros and cons.

Henry Cavill...You're welcome!

I'm looking too, but I have a Mazda 3 so I have a feeling my choices will be limited.

  • DS1 has the First Years True Fit. We know how to use it and like it so I'll buy another when we need one for DS2.
  • We have an Evenflo Symphony waiting in the basement. I am starting to think we will be switching soon from our KeyFit30. I have a love/hate relationship with having to carry it in and out of daycare. DH does drop-off and I do pick-up. We just need to purchase a second one for DH's car. DS rode in a convertable in my mom's car one day last week when she had to watch him and DS seemed to be much more comfortable and fit better in it than he does his infant carrior, so I am thinking another week or two before we make the switch to both of our cars.

I think DD will hit the height limit of our infant seat in the next couple months. It is also getting to be a pain carrying her in it. So heavy now.

I am kind of leaning towards something like the Graco Nautilus 3 in 1, that will last until she is out of the booster.

DS is in the Britax Marathon and it's great, but he will need a high back booster next year. It was pricy.. so I'm not sure I want to go that route again.

This is the issue we had with DS#1 too.  He was 27" at his 4 month appt so we put him in the convertible at around 5 months.  We ended up getting the Britax Boulevard.  It fit just fine in our Prius and in our Highlander.  We'd gotten two thinking that he might need to ride in either car, however, he's never in the Prius.  This means that we already have the convertible ready for DS#2 :)  So far he seems a little shorter than DS#1, so I'm hoping the infant seat will last a bit longer.

We have the graco nautilus but it is only forward facing. As DS is so big he will likely be out of the carrier well before 1 year mark, and I'd like to keep him rear facing as long as I can.  I suspect I will need to exchange it for a convertible that is rear facing as well.

My biggest advice is to get the seat that works best in your car. When DD needed to switch I ordered a britax because they are "the best ". But it just did not work in my Passat. We ended up going to a local store that had certified nhtsa installers and settled on a TruFit. Loved that seat and it has a high height limit for my 90th percentile kids. But it doesn't work in my current car. So now we have a britax marathon which I find is super easy to adjust and use

What store is this? I think I need to go there.

We have a Britax Highway in DH car now. When she out grows the carrier I will put the Britax in my car and get something else for DH. LO is mostly in my car.

I was looking at this car seat until I realized this as well. We are looking to get one that will work all the way up to a booster but then I noticed the whole it doesn't do rear facing thing. Sucks because it looks like such a great seat!

I didn't realize that. My parents have a Safety 1st one for DS that does rear and forward 5 harness and then a high back booster. It must not be a regular booster, but I like how long it will last. I think they got it at Costco.
