Parenting after a Loss

AW: Baby ticker in siggy and update

I finally had the time and ambition to update my siggy.  I can't believe I have a baby ticker in my siggy!

Update on us:  I'm feeling a bit more at ease with motherhood each day that goes by.  On days where I get some sleep I feel better than on days that I didn't, but I guess that would make sense.  She had two nights that she slept 6hr stretches which were fantastic and then followed up with 3 nights of waking every 2hrs with one night of not wanting to go to sleep after each feeding.  Last night was a descent night so we are having a good day.  Having some milk supply issues, so we're pumping and FF.  It's frustrating and trying, but I keep telling myself that every drop I can give her is worth it.  She currently gets a little less than half her intake from me so that's not horrible. I ordered MotherLove More Milk Plus...hoping it helps.

3 ectopic pregnancies (EDD's 1/30/12-tube removed, 6/2/12-methotrexate and 10/2/12-methotrexate)
IVF and Natural FET resulted in BFN's and a hole in our wallets
Natural BFP #4 on 9/7/12 gave us our miracle on 5/18/13

  • Yay for a baby ticker!

Glad to hear you are both doing well! I hope your supply improves. Im sure you've checked out the BF board by now but they will have a ton of advice. In the beginning when my supply was low I had really good luck with eating oatmeal not instant but quick cooking oats and ground flax seed. I ate it twice z day and it really helped. ::hugs:::

ETA also...make sure your still nursing often. A lot of ppl wih supply issues think they should just give baby pumped milk from bottabutnd formula but your supply with improve much faster with baby nursing even if they are not getting anything. Then offer the bottle. Nursing tells your body to produce more than the pump will. GL!

Thanks!  I heard of the oatmeal, but not the flaxseed.  I will have to add that one in :)

  • Congrats and glad to see you here.  A well fed, hydrated and rested (yes I know that is near impossible) momma is helpful for supply.  Take it easy on yourself and know that you are doing right by feeding your baby by whatever method you need to.

Yay for baby ticket! Too bad I'm on mobile and can't see it!

Sounds like you and I are struggling with similar issues. Sleep is very hard to come by in this house, and I'm a tired old hag. I have no real advice, just sympathy. You are not alone!

I'm also having milk supply issues, which go hand in hand with the sleep deprivation as my body needs sleep to produce. Just last night and today I tried Fenugreek and flax seeds in oatmeal, and I'm starting to notice a difference! You may wish to try those things, and if course pump and nurse as often as possible. When you drain your breasts it triggers your body to fill them up again. Good luck, and you're correct in that every drop counts

  • Love seeing that ticker! As for the BFing issues I'd recommend trying a SNS or supplemental Nursing System to help stimulate your supply while supplementing. If there is a lactation consultant near by that you could see maybe  she could help you with one (I was introduced to it by the one in my hospital). If not I know they sell one on Amazon and I'm sure you could find some info online on how to use it. I'll admit it's a bit of a pita but I really think it's worth it if it can help. One thing that's important to know about it is that you want to wash out the tube as  soon as you can or it may get clogged and you need to use the premixed formula or bm because the powdered formula can clog it as well.
