Need quick advice on Clomid

My doctor called to report that my post-peak bloodwork showed VERY low estrogen and progesterone.  He wants to start me on 50 mg Clomid TODAY (cycle day 5) which I was totally unprepared for, and then HCG shots on post peak days 3, 5, 7, and 9 (after ovulation).

I know ZERO about Clomid.  Buried my head in the sand because I wanted to avoid it.

What is standard monitoring so I can ask about it?

I told him I would do the HCG shots this cycle, and wait to start Clomid until next cycle, but now I'm having second thoughts and wondering if I should just go for it.

Off BCP August 2010, NFP to avoid. Start TTC May 2011. TTA December 2011 - May 2012 doctor's orders :( TTC July 2012-January 2013. Currently pursuing Napro Technology. January 2013: Napro nurse is starting me on Vitex 3 DPO and Naproxen 8 DPO until my first appointment with the doctor. Based on my charts, they highly suspect endometriosis. image

Thanks!  DH is perfect.  My HSG was clear.  He mentioned doing more post-peak bloodwork, but not an ultrasound.  So I guess that is something I can ask for.

Still feeling torn about whether to go for it, or wait until I can get an appointment to sit down and really talk through all the options.  But this info definitely helps!

I know he is wanting to take full advantage of every cycle post-lap while I'm cleaned out.

If it were me, and I could get in right now for a baseline u/s to make sure I don't have any cysts, then I'd do it. I'd do almost anything to improve my chances of making this cycle work. I try to be as patient as possible, but I don't want to miss an opportunity. That's just me though. You need to come to a decision that is good for you! The way I always think of it is "will I regret it if I do it? Will I regret it more if I don't?"

I always see bloodwork mentioned on here as part of the "standard" Clomid monitoring. Neither I, nor anyone I know, has had mid-cycle blood work to check e2 levels done. I could see possibly doing this if you had multiple good sized follicles and wanted to know how many were mature, but that typically doesn't happen on Clomid, so if your doctor isn't doing bloodwork at that point don't worry about it. You do want the 7dpo p4 check though.
