When do you plan on giving LO a pillow?

Just wondering when you all are planning to let LO use a pillow. I've heard some people do so at about a year, some at 2 years. Jack seems like he might like one, he roots his head between the bumpers in the corner of his crib, plus I saw him try to lay his head on them once like a pillow.

Re: When do you plan on giving LO a pillow?

  • When we give him a soft blanket my son balls it up into a pillow, puts his head on it and seems really happy.  I feel like a small pillow might be safer than this.  Right now I still have him in a sleep sack at night but I sometimes give him a bigger baby blanket at nap time. He borrowed his cousins ni-ni on a recent trip and he seemed to really like having it in the crib.  We caught his talking to it, rubbing it, hugging it quite it a bit.  It was so cute and he seems ready for it.  I just still have a little new mom paranoia. I've been looking for a small minky pillow for him and I'll probably let him have the bigger blanket at night soon.

  • I gave DS one when he was 15 months old, and I probably could have given it to him earlier.  With DD, I plan on getting her one of these as well and giving it to her in the next month or so.

Here's the one I've gotten my kids: toddler pillow

  • No pillow for DS for a while. He has a light blanket but he sleeps on his belly with his total face in the mattress. When he started this I would try to roll his head one way but he would just bury it again.

I hadn't even thought about giving DD a pillow. She sleeps on her stomach most of the time so it seems like she doesn't really need one. I guess we'll just wait and see

This is us. I really have no idea. Sometimes when he's playing around in our bed he lays his head on a pillow, but only for a second. I hadn't really thought of it!

This is us too. I might not give him one till we turn his crib into a toddler bed.

  • My baby sleeps in our bed and even though I keep pillows away from him, he will either steal mine or go find one to lay down on. He used to nap on a pillow for his reflux so he knows they're comfy. He sleeps on top of them so his face isnt in the squishisest part

  • DS got one at about 19/20months when he started asking and playing naptime with one of the couch pillows.  We'll let DD have one anytime after 18months if she wants one otherwise we'll wait for the toddler bed.

  • Probably not until at least 2 when we gave DS a small toddler sized one.

  • We gave DD1 a pillow right after she turned 2. It's in her crib, but she STILL doesn't use it at almost 2.5. I'll probably wait until 2.5 for DD2. She doesn't even sleep with a blanket yet.
