Coming home outfit

Have any of you (who know gender or are Team Green) started thinking about this?

I'm a little bored at work so I've been looking online.

Sort of.  Since this is the first granddaughter on both sides I have received a crap TON of pink and 0-3month clothes in the mail as gifts.  I have been sorting thru it and will probably use one we have gotten.  When my son came home from the hospital we were totally thrown off because he was early and needed a premie outfit.  The one I bought for his going home outfit was huge so I remember thinking he was wearing something really random :)  oh well no one saw him but us anyway :)

I ordered a pink and blue Kimono for the twins that say "hello" "goodbye" all over them in different languages. They are from Under the Nile, Welcome to the World collection.

He'll probably be coming home in a onesie since it will most likely be hot as hell here when it's time to go home.

With DS I bought a specific, 3 piece, mid-price, soft, light blue outfit, in NB.  He was a week over due and the NB was still huge on him.  He wore Preemie for atleast the first month.  Anyway, the outfit was cute, but not near as cute as an outfit he wore later that was blue and covered in monkeys and had matching hat!  And he only wore that outfit once, and I spent between $20-$25 for it.

Moral:  I think I'm going less "Coming Home outfit" and more cute pattern outfit.

  • My mom bought a few outfits days after finding out that we are having a boy. I fell in love with one of the outfits and told her that was his going home outfit. Mom said "you don't know that. You will get so many outfits". Well, I am still so in love with the outfit and that is what I will bring my son home in. I can't wait.

I just checked out Tiny Sprouts.  Yes, very cute, but holy crap who can/will spend $58 for a coming home outfit!??!!?

I'm thinking some more along these lines!

  • I have the outfit both my brother and I were brought home in. I can't decide if I want to bring baby home in it too or choose my own. I'll probably bring that and then my favorite newborn outfit and favorite 03 month. Who knows what my exhausted emotional self will want, how big she'll be, or even what the unpredictable Michigan weather will be like!

That's all I have been thinking about! I'm team pink, and been looking all over for something super super cute! I saw some really cute outfits at babies r us by FAO Schwarts. I am going to have to go back and look more closely at them. I don't find it that important to have a coming home outfit but I think it's adorable.

I'm in Michigan too and decided on long sleeves since I figure even if it is hot out they will be in the cool air conditioning...I contemplated on what to do for a while though!

  • it's going to be roughly 10000 degrees when we have our baby. and I don't really care about stuff like that, so I'll probably just get some fun onesie from target

  • I found a really cute grey and white pant set that is sorta similar to wharfs came home in or if I should just use ds outfit. I might just bring both to the hospital and decide then.

  • I'll likely just pick a cute sleeper or NB outfit from whatever we've bought or get at our shower.

I'm using a lot of hand-me-downs for this DS, but his coming home outfit will be one that's new to him.

  • I picked up a cute sleeper from a consignment sale last weekend.  Will take a couple other back ups just in case.  Only thing I care about is that it be a different outfit than we took DD1 home in.

  • We have 'Little Sister' sleeper that we are planning to bring her home in. I will also pack a cute onesie (in a 0-3 size rather than a NB size so it doesn't rub on her cord) just in case it's unbearably hot, which is likely since I'm due Sept. 2nd. I also have a basic pink Carter's cotton cap to put on her head.

It's just NMS to be spendy on a coming home outfit. It's not like we are coming home to a house full of people or anything.

  • Boy or Girl...I love the Ralph Lauren whites.
  • lol!!! I side eye myself on this....I bought a little white cotton eyelet peasant dress (super super soft)  from Baby Gap.  It will be soo hot here in FL that I figured it would be great!  It is 0-3 months, but I also got an adorable little embellished onesie from a friend that is NB if she is really tiny:)  Embarrassed

I have bought one newborn outfit only and that is what we are using to bring baby home.  It's a short sleeved onesie with a little zip up jacket and pants from Carters and it's soo cute!
  • I've been thinking about this, but haven't made a decision yet. I'll probably pick something among the stuff we've accumulated so far. There are a few contenders I can think of right off the bat.

Both of my girls came home in the outfit I came home from the hospital in. It's a short pink dress with a lace color, so I'm thinking I should pick something else for this LO.  :)

I'll definitely be doing long sleeves. It might be warm or it might be cold, but even in the heat I'm thinking the air conditioning would be too much for thin, new skin to handle without being uncomfortable.

  • At the end of September, the average high here is in the low 70s and average low in the low 50s.  However, I live in Ohio, so it could be 80 or 40.  I got this outfit recently and might use it as the going home outfit -

     It's super soft and comfy.

  • For DD we got a pretty little dress, tights, bloomers, etc. It was overkill, and I changed her into a sleeper within a few minutes of being home.

With DS I plan on picking out a cute sleeper and calling it good. (I'll pack one newborn size and one 0-3 month size so I'm set no matter what he weighs.) He'll be way more comfortable, and I won't have to change him after a few pictures. :)

    Mommy to N (3), J (2), and C (10 months). LO4 is due in mid-September.
  • Sleepers are the same as sleep sacks, right? Sorry for the dumb question lol
  • mmdd20mmdd20 member

For DS, I had a cute 0-3 month outfit picked from our shower gifts. Last minute, I decided to grab the only newborn sleeper we had and bring it along just in case. Even the newborn size was too big on him.

I will pick out a little something for DD. She has already received a ton of hand me downs from my generous SIL and I don't plan on buying her anything for a while, but I want something 'just hers' for coming home. It won't be anything fancy though, probably just a sleeper or a kimono top and pants.

I was going to mention this, too. My second DD was 7 lb 3 oz, so a normal size. But she absolutely SWAM in newborn and couldn't even come close to wearing 0-3 until she was nearly two months old.

Moral of the story is, definitely grab a newborn size to bring to the hospital too, if you are planning on a 0-3 for the coming home outfit.

  • This is the first thing my mom bought when she found out we are having a boy. She has bought all my nephews and nieces thier coming home outfits. It's her "thing" It's very southern smocked type thing. Cute, but southern.
  • This is one of the gowns I am thinking, may get a few other options in case she doesn't fit!

  • Right after we found out it was a boy, DH went and bought this outfit for him and asked that we bring him home in it. I thought it was too cute and agreed to it.

DS came home in the outfit I came home in. I was not a fan but it was important to my mom. She wants DD to wear it too, but she will not. I now have a small embroidery business and Etsy shop, so I will be making her something to wear. Right now the plan is a monogrammed day gown.

  • Yes but seeing I don't know how big the boys will be its gotten tough. I will more than likely being matching premie outfits and then matching newborn outfits just in case they shock us all and are in the heavier side. My doc doesn't think they'll be over 5lb8oz and I think we'll be lucky if they're over 5lb. I don't know how much bearing it has on your past Los birth weights but dd and ds were 6lb5oz and 6lb11oz and I have an odd feeling the twins will be peanuts as well.

No. Sleepers are one piece outfits that usually zip or snap, have long sleeves and long pants, and usually cover the feet too. Basically pajamas, but for little babies, they make more variety so they can be worn as an outfit too.

A sleep sack is what it sounds like. It is either sleeveless or long sleeved, and is basically a wearable sleeping bag. It would NOT work as a going home outfit as you wouldn't be able to put a baby in a car seat and buckle it between their legs if they were in a sack. In almost every state, even if you live within walking distance of the hospital, you're required to leave with baby in a car seat.

  • Now you all are prompting me to go shopping. I have been resisting shopping for this one since I found out it was a girl because I just might go nuts with the cuteness. I do have a stash of girl clothing hand-me-downs from my SIL, but nothing quite right for a going home outfit. Now just to narrow down where to shop.
