question about dilation and the plug- something ob said

Yesterday my OB made some comment  like "well now that you're dilated your cervix is making more mucus to replug the opening". Huh? Does that mean if you're dilated at all you've lost the plug? That's not what I thought but maybe? I have no idea. Just curious about what you ladies think about that.

or you could just ask your OB. either way doesn't sound like anything to worry about IMO.

I'm not really worried about it- just one of those things a doctor says in passing that made me go "wait what?" when I thought about it later.

Your mucus plug can fall out in pieces, and will regenerate. It is closing an opening, so as that opening widens with dilation, it will come out and need to regenerate.

This. Another reason why losing your mucus plug isn't even a sure sign of impending labor.
