OB wait

I'm here for my regular monthly visit. Usually takes literally 2 minutes once I ACTUALLY see the doctor. However add in the waiting time and I'm usually here 1.5 hours. It's sooooo irritating. All she does is come in with a doppler and check hr and leave. The nurses get my vitals, weight and collect Irene before hand. I wouldn't even mind so much if this happened occasionally but it's happened every time I've been here. I'm just to the point where I want to start looking else where. Sorry for the long vent.

Re: OB wait

  • Have you maybe tried making your appts earlier in the morning? I find that they are less backed up the earlier I get there. GL

  • That's nothing. My appointment last thursday was at 11am. I finally saw my OB at 2. And I take public transit. Remember, they have other patients to take care of. Mine got called out to do a c-section before I was seen.

  • That's happens to me almost every time I go to the ob. And it doesn't matter what time of day I go. It always seems like every other patient that is there, is also there to see my doctor. Which is crazy because the practice has 10 ob/gyns, and the office I go to is the 'home' office for 4 of them. The worst part of it is the waiting in my room for the dr to come see me, it's so awkward and uncomfortable. So you are not alone with your annoyance!

Im glad you seem ok with your 4 hour waits. Like I said, I don't mind if this happens occasionally cuz I understand things come up that might be more of an emergency. But it's ridiculous that it happens all the time for what is the shortest appts of all time.
  • 1.5 hrs is nuts and 4 hrs is inexcusable! If a dr gets called out for c section it would be nice to tell patients and reschedule appts. I understand emergencies, but your time should be valued as well. I don't have four hours to spend waiting on a dr! I cannot imagine many people do!

What really kills me is when you've been waiting and people check in after you and then you sit there and watch them get called back before you. BP I swore my office was biased against non pregnant ladies, now I think they let you back based on how far along you are because on Tuesday I watched three pretty far along ladies get called back after arriving after me.  I am sure my logic is inaccurate but that is how I feel sitting there waiting.

They did tell me he was running late, and they did let me know he got called out. I'm not saying I'm completely happy with the wait, but I know that I have to book that day off of work just in case. Honestly, emergencies come up, and because I'm not that far along, I just go with it. I bring a book to read, sometimes two.

  • That seems awfully long. I wait maybe 15 minutes at the most?

  • Oh, and I'm always one of the last to see him because I have to wait for school to be out.

  • My doctor has a physician's assistant that sees no less than 2/3 of his patients. So, last pregnancy, as long as I could see the PA, I was gold! Unfortunately, she's been on her own maternity leave/bed rest since the week of my first appointment. So now every appointment I have had has been a multiple hour (between 2 and 4) wait. I just keep telling myself that school will be out next week and I can switch to non-Monday afternoon appointments. I feel the frustration, but am just hoping things will even out soon! Good luck!

  • Eek I am afraid I will get trampled if I tell you all I have never waited more than 5 minutes in the waiting room past my appt time. And then the nurse does her stuff and the doctor comes in right away. Fortunately I never have to deal with emergencies like them having to deliver babies because each doctor in the practice has a day at the hospital delivering babies. So when you deliver you get whatever doctor is there on that day.
  • Its normal for the nurses to check vitals, weight and collect a urine sample. Your OB or Midwife if there to check on the health of the baby and your pregnancy. He or she also has other patients. While I think waiting over an hour is a bit crazy, I also think it's to be expected at a women's health center or hospital.

Also OP, don't get snarky when you get a response you don't agree with. If you can't take responses with a grain of salt, don't post on a public forum.
