Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

5 am wake up!

For weeks now my DS (just turned 1 year) has been waking up at 5am.  Not crying but in a good mood so i think this is just his internal clock.  We put room darkeners up this weekend and he is now waking up at 4am!  His bedtime is around 6:30-7pm and usually falls asleep within minutes.

 Any advice?

Re: 5 am wake up!

  • My LO wakes up multiple times a night still, but 4:30am-5am seems to be the time he REALLY wants to get up... Usually if I give him a bit of milk, he will drift back off to sleep... I'm guessing it is a phase?

  • I haven't tried milk or water but I will tomorrow.  I usually put him in bed with me and typically he falls back asleep for another hour or so.

  • yup, same here, he's been doing this for about a month (wake up 430/5, eat, go back to sleep for another hour or two).  I am hoping he grows out of it soon, but it's better than his 3-6 night wakings we had for many months:)

i'd try putting him to bed earlier. my son went through a 5:30am wake up phase around 8 months and i kept moving his bedtime earlier so at least he'd get more sleep. eventually he started sleeping later, and was getting more total hours of sleep. after awhile we gradually moved his bedtime later.
