Trouble with prenatals

Anyone else having a really hard time getting down their prenatals? With nausea hitting hard this week it's been extremely difficult to swallow those things! I gag the second they go in my mouth. I went out and bought the target gummy ones today, hoping for better luck with those. Any other suggestions?

Re: Trouble with prenatals

  • I use Nature Made Prenatal Multi + DHA and it comes in a softgel so there is no taste!  They are rather large but as long as I take them at night before bed I am usually good to go!

  • I take mine at night right after I brush my teeth. For whatever reason that seems to help. Also I am usually asleep by the time I feel sick to my stomach after taking them!

  • I have to take mine at night, just a little bit after dinner.  For my first pregnancy they would make me so sick in the morning so I decided to take them at night when I felt a little better.

  • I had the same problem with mine and I switched to the Target ones. They have been working well for me so far. Some say it works to take your vit right before you close your eyes at night, but I woke up nauseous. It's the iron that's so hard on the stomach. My dr told me i didn't need iron until 2nd tri. Good luck!

  • They make mini prenatals, you have to take more of them, but they are smaller so they're easier to swallow.

  • My OB prescribed a prenatal, and I take it right before bed so I can just go to sleep and not worry about feeling nauseous. Hope you find something that works for you!

  • I take New Chapter Perfect Prenatals and I LOVE them. They don't make me sick at all, and they are way smaller than the centrum or other once a day ones.
  • Are you taking them with water? Try taking them with juice. My last pregnancy I was having a lot of trouble with them, so my nurse told me to take them with juice right before going to bed, and that helped a lot.

I love these! With DS they tasted very fishy, but now I don't taste a thing. I have a hard time swallowing pills and these are very easy for me.

  • I've been taking the same prenatals for almost a year and a half, and it's just been in the past week that they have started making me nauseous on a daily basis. I'm in the process of finding out which method works best for me. I don't think the nighttime thing is it, because I have such trouble sleeping and the slightest irritant wakes me up. I'm afraid that I'll never sleep if I take them at night!

The juice also helps with fish burps if your prenatal has fish oil in it.  I'd much rather taste juice when I burp than fishy vitamin taste.

This. Before I was pregnant I took the target gummies. Those things are damn tasty. Anyhow my dr wanted me to switch because the target ones don't have sufficient iron. I'd check with your doctor about that. I had a terrible time with the rx prenatals initially and switched to an rx chewable. That and taking it at night seems to have helped. GL!

  • Just as a side note since the iron thing is getting brought up, if anyone is taking a separate iron pill or ends up anemic like I did and has to supplement, take it a few hours after your prenatal or it won't be as effective. The calcium in prenatals sort of cancels it out!

  • I bet the gummies will help...I still take them right after I eat something to avoid additional nausea.

  • I switched to the belly bar brand chewables. They aren't gummies, more like fly stones but they are much easier to take. They contain both the daily allowance for iron and colic acid.
